Look for an announcement that Minnesota Vikings owner Zygi Wilf, who has pledged to pay $407 million of the cost of a proposed $1.1 billion stadium complex in Arden Hills, will increase his contribution to slightly more than $420 million.
…………..
the Vikings would prefer a moving roof because Wilf wants to get a Major League Soccer franchise.

I believe they'd be entering the league in 2014 at the absolute earliest, more likely 2015 or 2016 though.

Montreal Impact coming in in 2012 and probably the New York Cosmos in 2013.

If it ever gets big here in Chicago (we are a small or mid market for soccer), we need a 2nd Chicago team, but in a different conference/division.

But I'm not so sure Chicago will ever sell out in the near future, so this is unlikely. Unless we do like a Chivas USA thing with some Latin American team.

True.

But if we get a new team, they should take Toyota and give the Fire a city stadium as to not kill the Fire.

Best spot for a new stadium is on Roosevelt and Canal across from the target. Open unused land that is right near major expressways, public transit, the lake/museum campus/soldier field area, and in between several college campuses near the new growth South loop. The Fire and Bridgeview don't have a very good relationship to begin with, so it isn't impossible to see them leaving, although with certain financial agreements in place, I wouldn't expect it any time soon. Although, investment and help from the city could certainly help to make that move easier.

They got pushed out of SF once the renovation was done and the city and then mayor was not too keen on helping out the Fire in virtually any way--so they moved to a place that made fiscal sense and a solid offer. Sadly, I think it'll hurt the team until they move back into the city.

As far as Minnesota is concerned, meh. I mean, I'd like another close geographic rival--and no, they wouldn't 'replace' the rivalry with Columbus, they would just happen to be closer. I know a few of the Minnesota guys and they have been cool with us over the past years, so it's hard to see any initial animosity coming to/from them.

I'd rather see Milwaukee and/or Saint Louis before Minny gets a team. I know the Minny owner guy is hot to trot, but it costs anywhere from 50-100 million for the 20th team in the league.....and that's just the league's buy-in fee. Also, I don't know how MLS brass would react to another shared field space and another turf field. Turf fields suck, end of.
