I feel like Sam Smith recently...

Tyrus, Noah, Hinrich, for Jefferson, Cardinal

Rose
Gordon,Salmons
Deng
Jefferson
Miller

Add our two draft picks to that 6 man group and wow.

As for Minnesota

Hinrich
Foye,Carney
Gomes,Brewer
Love,Thomas
Noah

Plus they would have something like the #5,#18 and the #23 to fill out their roster.

Great idea however Mchale no longer GM

Jefferson a future all-star for sure, we cant say the same about Ty and Noah. Could never see the Wolves doing this.

It was a half joke...It does seem absurd they would give up Jefferson but hey why not make an offer, he is coming off an injury.

all these trades are jokes sorta (they never happen), i understand i make them all the time. However Jefferson is not coming off a bad injury and he is still only 22 correct?

A torn ACL is not a minor injury, it's one of the more serious injuries you can have to your knee and one of the worst sports injuries people get.

As for Jefferson, it's unlikely they'd trade him, but not entirely out of the question. I don't see Jefferson and Love as good long term fits with each other. Jefferson has had a number of injuries in his career and has a huge contract.

I'm not saying he could be had, but it's not out of the question.

I think its out of the question. Severe injury or not. The kid is still young and coming off an amazing first half before the injury. I see him coming back to full form from his injury (well I atleast hope so).

When you combine the facts that Jefferson wasn't hyped when he first came into the league and now plays in Minnesota, he's so far under the radar it just isn't right.

If he played in any of the popular markets like NY, Miami, LA, Dallas, PHX, etc ... he'd be considered untouchable by anyone at all who paid attention to NBA basketball.

The Wolves know what they have though and I don't see them trading him anytime soon for anything less than an absolute star in return.

We're getting Bosh this summer anyways though! ;-)

If Minnesota wins the lottery, one of Griffin, Love and Jefferson will get moved. If not two of them. So it's not out of the realm of possibility that Jefferson is traded. He's their best trade piece and could pretty much acquire whatever team need Minnesota has. Plus picks.

If they decide to move Kevin Love instead, he'll also fetch a good return. But this all hangs on Minny getting the first pick. They won't move Love or Jefferson if they don't. That said, I agree with Doug. Both are pure PF's and a bad mix. Jefferson as a C is not going to help things.

I don't know whether you want to call Love/Jefferson PFs or Cs, but what I do know is that they both need to be near the basket, and you don't want two big men who both need to be near the basket.

NSB:
I'd agree that Jefferson is better than Love, and it's unlikely they move him, however you have to remember this is Minnesota. They are going to probably lose 30 million+ this year. It's not all about basketball talent, but some of it will be about surviving the economy.

If they view the pairing as poor (which they should) then it wouldn't be shocking to see them trade the far bigger contract in such a way that provides them some other salary relief or much cheaper quality pieces going forward.

Jefferson + Cardinal to the Bulls after the draft for Brad Miller + Jerome James + our 2 picks + our 2010 pick + cash is the type of trade that they might seriously consider. Get 3 more 1st round picks on cheap salary, unload Cardinal's deal for James's deal which is insured (possibly take Hinrich instead of Miller if they want).

I'm not saying a different team couldn't make a better offer or that they'd do a salary dump. I just think when you're a business staring massive gaping losses in the face that you'll do a lot for cash.

Doug I would imagine that at least one of Tyrus and Noah would have to be included. I did not include our 09 picks because they already have 3 picks in this draft. Do they really want 5 picks especially considering this is a weaker draft? Under this thought how about Tyrus, James, 2010 pick, and Hinrich for Jefferson, Cardinal. We could go with a perimeter player like Williams at SG to help offset the loss of Gordon and protect against Deng and then with the late pick get a point guard with some size like Calathes.

Rose,Calathes
Salmons,Williams
Deng,(Salmons)
Jefferson,Tim Thomas
Noah,Miller

Minny would have Hinrich, Love, Thomas, Foye, Brewer, Gomes plus 3 picks in this draft.

I like your suggestion.. at least for the Bulls. It gives us our big man - if he can stay healthy. Admittedly, I've only seen box score numbers from Jefferson and haven't seen him plat at all as he's been on some pretty dreadful teams. I'd only have to ask:

1. I thought that after being mentioned as the worst contract for the last few years, Brian Cardinal's deal will be up either this year or next (not sure and I'm at work so I can't go find out).

2. If the 'Wolves were going to decide to dump Jefferson for salary, why not try to start some kind of bidding war and try to snatch a young talent on a cheap contract as well as picks - something like what Phoenix was rumored to have wanted for Amare.

Maybe they'd want Noah, but Tyrus would command a new big salary too soon, and if they were to make a trade like this they'd want to avoid that.

Granted, I think if Jefferson were available someone may come in and top our offer, but my point is that there will be a lot of teams selling value for cash this summer. There are a lot of teams poised to loose 30+ million.

A lot of the owners also saw their net worth cut in half by the economy and no longer can afford to stomach such losses. Look for teams willing to be buyers to make a killing this summer in trades/FA.

If that is true Doug then we for sure would be considered buyers. Not in the way of going over the luxury tax but in terms of having big expiring contracts, draft picks and young talent willing to move for a star bigman. Perhaps among Jefferson, Bosh, Amare, Brand we can get one of them with Bosh the preferred one obviously.

I'm sure if they decided to trade him that they would try to start a bidding war and would take the best offer, and I don't mean to imply that we would win in that situation or that they would make the decision to trade him.

I'm only saying in this economy, with Jefferson's injury and contract, and a front court partner in Love that doesn't fit well with him that the idea isn't as crazy as it would seem at a different point.

Cardinal has only 1 more year on his deal (09/10 season).

We should be buyers, but the question is will we be buyers and will we be the best buyers.

I think Portland is in the catbird seat more so than any other team. They have great financial backing, they have better young talent to move on good deals, and they have non guaranteed contracts which are better than expirings.

Agreed Portland is in very good shape and in my opinion should be making a move to get a real star to go with Roy. With the concerns about Oden, if they can get a real star using some of that young talent(Aldridge,Outlaw,Webster,Fernandez,Batum,Bayless, etc) along with some of those unguaranteed contracts they should and they would be able to trump anything that us or anyone in the league could offer. With that said outside of Portland you could argue we are next in terms of having the most assets to go get someone. Big expirings in Miller, Tim Thomas along with that contract of James that might be very valuable to financially strapped teams along with a starting level PG in Hinrich, young bigs in Tyrus and Noah, 2 draft picks in 09. More than one guy will be available so even if Portland makes a move we might be in position to get someone else.

Judging from their game and comfort zone, I'd say the PF tag on both seems accurate. However, that's a minor point in the grand scheme of things. They are a bad fit as you say, because they both play a position where they're asked to do roughly the same.

Minnesota could use a strong wing player or a legit center. Trading Jefferson could give them both. Say Kirk Hinrich, Joakim Noah and Luol Deng plus a lot of extra sweetener for Jefferson and Cardinal?

C Noah
F Love
F Deng
G Foye
G Hinrich

C Miller
F Jefferson
F Salmons
G Gordon (?)
G Rose

Such a deal needs a lot of work, as I'm sure Minnesota could get better offers. But it's not a bad idea to look at Minnesota as a trading partner in the future. Especially if they land the first pick and drafts, and keeps, Blake Griffin.

The more I think about this situation with Minnesota and Jefferson the more I think there might be something here. They are real high on Love, they could be getting Griffin, Hill or Thabeet in the draft and Jefferson is coming off ACL injury.

Hinrich, Deng, Tyrus Thomas, James, 2010 1st rd pick for Jefferson, Smith, Cardinal?

That should put us in position to bring Gordon back so you would have...

Rose, Vet PG, Calathes(#26)
Gordon, Williams(#16)
Salmons,Timmy, Johnson
Jefferson,Smith,Cardinal
Noah,Miller

that's a LOT to give up though. we give up a starting PG, starting SF, potential, insured expiring AND a draft pick on top of that.

we get back a risky PF, a backup rotation player, and noche without shooting ability that expires.

it seems like a salary dump at the same time, which we won't need if we get our prize in jefferson

Jefferson plays below the rim, which means his athleticism isn't that strong of a factor. We've seen players bounce back from torn ACL's, and while it is the worst injury in basketball right after spine injuries, I'd probably feel secure in making that deal.
