The thought is we're close to two 15-team leagues. If that's the case, it's gonna be more difficult than sending the Astros to the AL-West, in my opinion.

What would you like to see? How do you want to see the teams divided?

here's a map of the franchises you can use.

mlb-teams_map1.jpg

Here's my take on it, going almost strictly geographical:

realignment.png

AL East: Yankees, Red Sox, Mets, Phillies, Orioles
AL Central: Tigers, Indians Blue Jays, White Sox, Reds
AL West: Mariners, Giants, As, Dodgers, Angels

NL East: Marlins, Rays, Pirates, Nationals, Braves
NL Central: Cardinals, Cubs, Royals, Brewers, Twins
NL West: Rockies, Rangers, Astros, Diamondbacks, Padres

Teams switching leagues: Mets, Phillies, Reds, Giants, Dodgers, Rays, Royals, Twins, Rangers

What say you? make your own map.

If they resort to this kind of gimmicry to avoid dealing with the real problem, I'm done.

I wondered what would come first....that post, or something like the NL Central being the Cubs, Royals, Astros, Indians, and Blue Jays

LOL, just move the Astros to the AL West and be done with it. Making it strictly geographical defeats the purpose of having the AL and NL.

Do you really not know why they're talking about doing this?...Seriously?!

It's seems mostly to serve as a solution for the imbalance in the AL West and NL Central, but would create the issue of all-season interleague. I wrote something about it once...

I'd just move the Astros or some other willing team and be done with it. Few teams are going to want to switch leagues and the Astros were suggested because nobody gives a shit about them.

HOU to ALW makes the most sense. Then we just have interleague series all year

No, that's not what's behind it. The reason this talk exists is because there's a big chunk of America that couldn't care less about baseball anymore. And some of these places used to be good baseball towns.

This is an attempt to try to make the small market teams more relevant on a consistent basis while allowing Bud Selig to not stand up to the big market and small market teams. It's a gimmic or a vehicle to accommodate the fact that Selig is a spineless joke of a commissioner.

If he had a spine, he'd push for some combination of a ceiling and floor but instead you get stuff like this that makes a mockery of the sport. It's a form of relegation. If Selig does this, he might as well have a division of minor league teams and let them sit at the table as well because doing this is an acknowledgment that such a stratification practically exists already.

What do you propose?

Selig should implement a salary floor and also a ceiling. It's not like it has to be like the NFL where when they have a salary cap, teams spend the almost the same, for the most part. You could have a big disparity still but right now in MLB, you have a system where small market teams are pocketing money from a luxury tax while hiding behind excuses for why they don't spend money. And then, on top of that, they want to push the risk off on others and one way they do this is by threatening to move the team.

Selig needs to do a lot but it starts with growing a spine. He needs to stop being the Yankees, Red Sox, and White Sox puppet. And then they should go from there. At this point, this realignment idea is like trying to spray cologne on a pile of manure.

Wish it were that simple, I think the players union is really powerful and would be against anything resembling salary restrictions. I don't like the luxury tax either, so maybe the salary floor might work. I'm sure even the Royals and Pirates players would want to get paid.
