Think this moves the Houston Dynamo back to the West... and assuming the NYC2 isn't good immediately, that should help us out in 2014.

If I was the New York Red Bulls, I'd be absolutely pissed.

yea the MLS isn't big enough to have two teams compete in the same market, I feel like depending on how convinient the new stadium is to get to the Red Bulls might die no matter how good they are

Not entirely true, the Galaxy and Chivas share a market and a stadium, and neither has completely terrible attendance (though Chivas is near the bottom of the league). I'd hoping NYRB survives by keeping the fans they've already gathered, they have become a national brand after all. The Cosmos (or whatever the new team is called) will benefit from nostalgia (if that is the name) and convenience of location.

Overall, I preferred Orlando or Atlanta, but it probably isn't the end of the world.

And D.C. United is having to pay for the new stadium they begin construction on possibly next year as well.

oh glad I have you here, but sharing the big market of New York does suck, hopefully means more competition for DPs

True. Fortunately, Manhattan fans will find the Queens stadium almost as inconvenient as Red Bull Arena, so the Red Bulls can still draw from there and from New Jersey.

If the team isn't named the Cosmos, it is probably better for the Red Bulls though.

I wonder if the MLS will compensate the Red Bulls as is typical in other sports... invasion of another team's market is unprecedented with the exception of the Chivas... but I wasn't watching back then so I'm not sure what happened then.

Oh, and check out the realignment thread.

Rumors now that this may take a little while longer than 2014 due to the amount of time needed to get the stadium construction deal approved.

:yep: I want a balanced league... and I think the ultimate goal should be 30, seems to be the bench mark for the Big 4... only other really successful league with less is the CFL... but they failed outside of Canada (8 teams, expanding to 9)

yeah it'd be great to see more teams in the midwest, Chicago is like an oasis in the desert along with Sporting KC. Detroit, Minnesota, St. Louis, and Cleveland/Cinncinatti could all use teams

Detroit: Maybe, but idk. Tony is from there so he would say yes, but idk.
Minnesota: Vikings plan on buying a future expansion team to share a stadium with, but you know, not an SSS.
St. Louis: Were once a leading bidder.
Cleveland/Cincinnati: Columbus Crew covers it.

the one place I can't and dont want to see soccer expand to is Miami or Florida, it will die faster than the Indians' playoff hopes down there.

I'm from the west side of the state, actually. I was just as close to Chicago growing up as Detroit, but always cheered for Detroit teams (and the Cubs because **** the White Sox :p).

But yes, I do think Detroit should be considered. The proposal on renovating the silverdome was pretty cool... except for the fact that it's still in Pontiac. That'd be the only issue. I think Detroit does have the ethnic makeup to support a soccer team. Detroit City FC is getting a great following despite being like 4th tier or something crazy like that.

Minny and St. Louis both have a good foundation as well, but St. Louis was having financial problems. If they get that sorted out, they'd be a good choice as well.

Just throwingthis out there...why not Indianapolis? With the succes of IU-Bloomingtons soccer program historically, I feel they could get a good fan base

I was going to say them actually but wasn't sure how much support there was for soccer, but since you apparently know IU has a good fan base then I dont see why not, they could play in Lucas Oil Stadium

Don't care much for Indy... close enough to here that half the people interested in sports will just follow our teams.

Look at 85Bears4Life... he lives in Indy... roots for the Pacers and all... but still roots for the Cubs. They have no need.

Oh, and add Fire to your favorite teams... take out Illinois.
