JERUSALEM – Israeli archaeologists said Monday they may have found the earliest evidence yet for the existence of modern man, and if so, it could upset theories of the origin of humans.

A Tel Aviv University team excavating a cave in central Israel said teeth found in the cave are about 400,000 years old and resemble those of other remains of modern man, known scientifically as Homo sapiens, found in Israel. The earliest Homo sapiens remains found until now are half as old.

Some scientists are saying that these are Neanderthal teeth instead. That they are juvenile Neanderthal teeth so the are smaller. It is an interesting debate. But of course like Supra said humans are 6,000 years old, so its moot.

While I don't doubt the possibility, teeth are the worst indicator of age and type. I think they need to find skulls and other bones in that same area to have a better idea.

It is becoming really obvious that we have no fucking clue how old the earth really is and how long humans have been walking around, talking, thinking, planning, and scheming. I believe there is a wealth of archeological information out there which leads to anthropoligical inferrences about a civilization. But ultimately we just don't know. We only have bits and pieces. I love when they find more, but its all just bits and pieces.

Why am I saying this? Because I am really tired of all the religious types out there that rest their hopes and fears on a book that was written, rewritten, translated, rewritten again, then reinterpretated...and so on...so many times that no one has the original concept still in mind. I am not strictly talking about the bible here. I am referncing about six major religions' 'holy' texts.

I don't claim to KNOW anything except where I personally came from and when. I will some day KNOW when and where my kids come from. The rest is all just hearsay and conjecture. I wish some zealots would admit that much.

----end rant----

Yeah I get you are ranting and i feel ya but in science we think we know something we have evidence to support it, new evidence that says differently we accept the new evidence. I don't see a problem with that. We learn more and more as time goes on.
