Smitsonian Channel or Nat Geo Chanel recently was running an Area 51 special. It had many interviews with test pilots, engineers and even the one time head of security there. They specifically talked about the A-12/SR-71 program, and they confirmed that reverse engineering took place there....specifically tearing down WWII german fighters as well as Russian Migs from the cold war.

CIA sponsored the A12 planes. Back in the day they were THE spy agency. It is interesting now just how many sister agencies there are with their individual missions. The more interesting part is which ones pay for what 'programs' (aka satellites, spy planes, super computers, analysts, etc). It essentially all comes out of the Defense budget but one armed service might 'pay' for the aircraft, while an agency may 'pay' for the computers and analysts. It must be a lot of fun running those numbers before congress. No wonder the national budget is always fucked up, lol. It is HUGE with a ton of different feeder organizations.

So to add a post that is a little more 'Area 51'; does anyone still believe that we examined aliens there like they show in the movies all the time?

According to the latest story they're feeding us anyway. That is a very cool looking plane, you could see how people would think it was a UFO.

Even though it has been retired, and even with todays technology, it still out performs everything out there.

My honest answer is I don't know. I doubt it but maybe. I don't see the necessity of keeping intelligent alien life a secret. Maybe in the 40s and 50s sure but we've evolved as a society and sure you'd have some nut jubs but I think most of the populace would think it was pretty damn cool.

The thing that makes me doubt it is the aliens in that dissection video look an awful lot like the aliens you seen in Hollywood back then. That is too convenient that Hollywood guessed right on how aliens would look.

Thing you have to remember, even in the 50s, they based the characters they created on "eyewitness" reports.

It would depend on the reason for keeping the "intelligent alien life" a secret. Worst case scenario, does the public really need to know we have an interstellar rival out for blood?

Absolutely.

Be mindful of the way you say things there Orson, or folks might think you are speaking the truth.

Do they want combat with us? Maybe they are just as excited to see intelligent life themselves. If they do want to fight us then the public sure the hells needs to know we are in for a fight. This is going to sound tin foil hat but if we are going to fight the combined world militarys might not be enough. The public might be able to help us win. But that's all hypothetical.

Back in my USAF days outside Fairbanks, AK we were then a base that did alot of spying on the Russians. We used to get thest puppies (U-2) showing up and immediately were hangered. We had our own spy planes stationed on the base that were modifiend KC-135's.
