Here was Dave Hollinger's opinion on Asik:

The first is Omer Asik, a Turkish center who played for Fenerbahce Ulker in Istanbul this past season. In 279 Euroleague minutes -- granted, a smallish sample -- his performance projects to 12.2 points and 13.5 boards per 40 minutes, with 52.3 percent shooting and a 15.23 PER. He blocks shots, too, setting a Euroleague Round of 16 record for rejections this year.

He's 22, 7-feet tall with a decent frame and relatively new to the game and still improving. So what's the hang-up? Apparently he signed a five-year deal to stay in Turkey with no buyout, meaning he might not play in the NBA for a long time. That would be a shame. I have little doubt that Asik should be a lottery pick, but the contract issue may leave him as a mid-second rounder.

And here is an extensive report on Asik from Sebastian Pruti

Very interesting...

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  2. Golden State Warriors
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
Well that all makes sense. He's not going to contribute a whole lot this year, and I don't think we expect him to. If he gets a bit stronger and quicker, he can be a pretty decent backup. Hopefully he can accomplish that.

how big is he? i read somewhere that he's 230lbs. It'd be nice if he bulked up and could play nba basketball. from what i've read, a lot of the reasons that we believed he would be a lottery pick is that he should have developed. injuries have prevented him from doing so. hopefully he will be able to do so. we need a guy to guard howard. I'm hoping we can snag a defensive center with girth sometime in the near future.

Kurt Thomas is the closest you got to someone with girth to guard Howard. I am sure that is one of the reasons he was brought in...

Is it just me or does he seem to be a poor mans version of Noah? He has a very limited offensive game and is just really active. I think he will be fairly good but will dulicate a lot of what you get with Noah.

I talked to Mr. Pruti last night.

He said that Asik shows promise offensively and that over time, he can develop his post up game, but Pruti was more worried about his size. Whatever limited game Asik has, he doesn't have the strength to be successful with it. The Bulls will have to develop Asik physically, much as Noah has developed.

I really think they will try and work him they worked Noah and build up his size and bulk him up. Like pink said injuries really stopped him from developing some but I have hope in him and I think he will become a legit back up for this team.
