According to the new FBI statistics of Violent Crimes per 100,000 residents, Detroit again reigns supreme. I realize that the stats can be deceving but they are what they are, the interesting part to me was #3 Springfield and #10 Rockford.... Chicago not on the top 10 list. Now i get that population size has a lot to do with this, but still interesting to look at.

Taken from 2010 Uniform Crimes report. (MUST TAKE INTO ACCOUNT ONLY REPORTED CRIMES)

http://www.forbes.com/sites/johngiuffo/2011/10/03/americas-most-dangerous-cities/

10. Rockford (760)

9. Las Vegas - Metro (763)

8. Tallahassee (775)

7. Stockton, Cali (805)

6. Lubbock Tx (808)

5. Anchorage (813)

4. Flint, MI (827)

3. Springfield IL (855)

2. Memphis TN (1006)

1. Detroit - Metro (1111)

I actually expected to see Honolulu on there. But they came in at 268...

Interesting, upon looking at the spreadsheet, I don't see Chicago even listed as a statistical area... what's up with that? Or Gary? Weird. Maybe I'm not understanding what's being reported?

The data used in creating this table were from all law enforcement agencies in the UCR Program (including those submitting less than 12 months of data).

Not sure what that is, but I would assume CPD doesn't provide data to it. As well as many other cities around the US. To me that makes this actually pretty irresponsible journalism doesn't it? I mean the data specifically cautions using itself in order to make rankings?

Don't worry, I have bullet proof vests with Kevlar for each of those skating in the charity event. Spouses, dependents and friends are on their own....

For what? The skaters have skates with big knifes on them! We've also seen that shoulder pads are so strong they bash brains in and cause guys to be out of commission for years at a time. That's all the protection they need.

No armor plating for vehicles but may be able to acquire some ceramic plates for the vests that you could duct tape to your vehicle.

You don't have to worry about any of that nature downtown where the BMO Harris Bank Center is.

Rockford

Rockford, with 760 violent crimes per 100,000 residents, is one of those towns where the crime rate stems from a complex series of factors. It switched last year to the National Incident-Based Reporting system, which as with Memphis, helps to keep more accurate records, but also can result in reported rates of crime that are higher than other cities that use different reporting mechanisms. “Unfortunately, not every city wants to use that system because it often results in higher rates of crime in the reports,” says Stults. Interstate 39, which is located on the eastern edge of the city and heads north to Wisconsin, could also be a factor, as again, larger interstate highways tend to be popular routes for drug couriers to use for distribution, and Rockford’s proximity to Chicago makes it attractive as a waypoint for drug couriers.

I did see a Gangland episode on a biker gang where Rockford was a main base/hub. Can't remember which gang, one of the big ones.

Also, Those are the crimes reported. Do they have a stat that shows crimes solved/perpetrators imprisoned?

It's funny , I heard it for the first time on an ad. BEEE MO... haha

I'm ot sure if they're trying to force that on consumers because "Bank of Montreal" sounds either too Canadian or too French (or both) or because B.O.M. sounds like "bomb".

Hmmm, there's a thought.. maybe we should start calling Carcillo "Car-BEEE MO".

journalism at it's best...maybe why ESPN is still using Jesse Rogers for the Hawks news? By the way, is Jesse even at the games or is he doing what are friend in the paper is doing and stealing his stuff from the boards and AP?
