Spring cleaning time.
I dismantled my dust collector surround sound system. I used it once when I set it up, and that has been it. Just never got in to it.

Anyone else have any items they spent money on only to find out you never use the item?

In my area, there are tons of people who have done the same thing with golf carts and wave runners. People think they look awesome, spend ten minutes using them, and realize it is boring as hell.

Large bar tabs through the late 90's and early 2000's. I regret those nearly every day, after researching/understanding the stock market more the last few years. Such a waste...

Tangible item(s), I'd probably say workout equipment/weights for at home. I'm not motivated to workout at home and find projects around the house to do instead, they were wasted purchases. I go to a gym and use it 4 times a week.

edit: Another finance related one. Not buying cheap crap from China with bitcoin back in 2011. I was intrigued when the option to buy and pay with bitcoin came up. I remember thinking, why not have $50-$100 in bitcoin to use? Well, I did the calculation and I would've had minimum of $108 million at the height of the market. Let's assume I never reached the height of the market because I would've sold well before that if I remembered having it. So it peaks and falls to current levels. I'd have roughly $17 million right now. Oh well. Missed opportunity and something a vividly remember thinking why not have some of this bitcoin to buy stuff from China.

I bought one of those teeter hang upside down things. I've been on it twice in three years.

At least I bought it used, I could probably still sell it for most of what I paid.

Of course I've wasted thousands of dollars on food and booze among other consumables that I probably didn't need.

I was a competitive club golfer, 6 handicap that played 100 rounds a year. I had severe hips problems that need replacement and had to prep for 30 minutes before each round. The only way I could play was spending 10 minutes on the Teeter hang up

Penny stocks, 2015. Thought I found a real company and blew way too much. Had an 11K gain in one day and thought "This is only the beginning" What a dummy!

I suppose a combo of two purchases.

I had a problem in both of the places I lived during the warmer months... my room was always too hot.

I lived in an apartment in college, and at home during Summer/holidays.

So initially I bought one of those Swamp Cooler things, and it worked, but nowhere near well enough to decrease the temperature in either of my rooms.

So I swapped it for a portable AC/heating unit, which cost another like 150$ on top of the cost of the Swamp Cooler, but I figured it would do the job.

The main issue I found was the heat it exhausted needed to go outside, but the hose coming out the back was like 4 inches in diameter and it had an attachment for the end but it was still like 3 inches tall, so you wedge it into your window which has to be open 3-4 inches all the time which lets in hot air lol.

I jury rigged some cover around the exhaust and it did work at cooling my room at school, but never really managed it at home much of the time.

In the end I probably should have just bought some regular fans lol

This is why I just picked places that had proper AC

I used to think it was buying a Nintendo 64 on launch day. Not because the N64 was bad, or had a weak library(it kind of does), but because I bought it on launch day when there was one game worth playing on it. Close to $500 out the door and to someone who played a lot of PC games too, that was money better spent elsewhere.

But then I traded it in after 100%ing Mario 64 a few weeks later, got myself a 3DO with 80 games and a few accessories and that stuff is worth way more now. Its funny because now I own 8 N64s (mostly just side projects, mods, and doing repairs). That was just a system more worth waiting at least a year to pull the trigger on. But for the longest time, I just felt so burnt buying that N64 because I never had a launch day system and spent my own money on it.

What's wrong with Robin Trower? I saw him at Park West and he was great, the ticket was a wonderful purchase.

Pink Floyd, Zeppelin, Frampton, Eagles, Doors, Allman Brothers, Doobie Brothers, Moody Blues, James Gang, Outlaws, etc all great with me. Robin Trower just didn't do it for me.

Can't think of anything to big for regrettable purchases like a car/house, etc. My worst purchase of 2018 had to be my investment into crypto though lol. Had a buddy tell me about XRP (Ripple) and it was suppose to be the next big thing. I watched it for a few weeks and it had steadily risen from 50cents to $1 then it hit $2. I started having FOMO real bad, like it was the next bitcoin and I just had to invest. Luckily, I started small and only put in $100 which came out to be 48XRP. It's currently worth 15 bucks lmao. I've never seen it higher than what I bought it at. Good times
