Motorcycle Steering Wheels

It's getting to be that time of the year where we get our bikes out of storage, lube those bitches up and go for the first ride of the season!

Every year around this time I get the crazy thought of replacing my handlebars with a steering wheel (see Figure 1 for general reference). Studies show that you have approximately 20% more control of a motorcycle while using a steering wheel as opposed to handlebars.

With all of the nasty motorcycle accidents I see every year, I think 20% is more than enough reason to at least contemplate making the switch.

Have you guys thought of trying a steering wheel? Obviously it would not be feasible on all bikes like crotch rockets or mopeds.

It would only work on some Harleys. As CLEARLY stated... a steering wheel would not be feasible on a crotch rocket.

I can't stop smiling when I talk about motorcycles... especially when the weather is about to turn for the first time after winter!

I think it would be most reasonable on mopeds actually but would def look more badass on a Harley or better yet an Indian.

Well why stop there? Put one in the sidecar too so the passenger could steer while the driver lights a smoke.

I think id try out steering wheel on your bike before getting one for your motorcycle, just to get used to it. I also think motorcycles should have louder horns, so maybe a steering wheel would help?

That would be cool. Just so you know, they are relatively easy to install. I can even help you if you want.

Just with all of ther bad accidents we witness due to bad motorcycle drivers last year... I think this is a viable option that everyone should at least consider.

The thing is, with the couple of motorcycle accidents I've caused, it was probably because they didn't have a loud enough horn and there was no way I saw 'em coming. Just think of all the people that actually see them coming and don't even account for their recklessness?

That's the whole point though. If they are looking it's less likely you get maimed or killed by a crash.
