Only for retro computer software preservation/backup. I do buy specific blanks when I come across them at thrift stores (for the same purpose).

For audio, even the best of the best tape transfers on type-IV tape are degraded. The only reason to collect is 1) nostalgia/art, 2) preservation of exclusive media (and even then you will want to transfer.) I have a sansui deck from the 80s just for preservation, and it rarely gets used.

do they degrade more from use or just shelf life n da oxygen?? or is it a combination?..

in oz, old music tapes arent that expensive.. but for some reason new blank tapes are.. 8+ bucks a pop.. well thats not expensive but for a tech that most ppl moved on from.. it seems like it.. i doubt i buy any new tapes unless i want to make real mixtapes.. dat lil kenwood micro system has a usb to tape burn function..

it was just about having a tape deck in case of.. i use to come across old bundles of tapes for pennies and would just move on even if they were decent albums..
