The money league I am in is so intense the guys involved actually record podcasts regarding the fantasy league but more so about current hockey news and other sporting news. It's actually a pretty good podcast and they can be funny as hell sometimes.

If anyone ever has an hour and a half to kill or are looking for good background noise their podcasts are worth a listen. A few inside jokes that only my fantasy league would understand but they try not to go to much into those inside jokes. They have strong opinions and present their arguments and points well.

Thought I would advertise them here. If they keep it up I could see them getting a sponsored radio show locally here. They are that good.

I thought all fantasy sport players were nerds in denial.

Fantasy sports is nothing more than Pokemon for grown men

I would have said D&D, or even Magic, the Gathering, but Pokemon works.

I sum up Ultimate Team on NHL 12 the same way. It is the worst parts of Be a GM and the worst parts of Pokemon put together to make a very craptastic game mode that for someone reason everyone loves and I find tedious and annoying.

BAP is alright but I soured on it after my rookie year I collected like ALL the hardware and was told at pre-season that I would have to play my way onto the team again. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME. I lead the NHL in goals, points, plus/minus and hits. If I have to play my way onto the team again, **** YOU send me back to the CHL so I can score 300 goals in a season and injury all the other team since I have high checking numbers. When i seen that it just killed my desire to play. I mean if I had a mediocre season, fine, and yeah I started out that way, I was very average but I got going and wrecked it. I mean I beat 2 gretkzy records in my rookie year, but yeah I have to play my way onto the team again. Coach can blow me.

Heck I named my UHL team "HUT is dumb"

Odd. I played my 1st season of BAP moving from the 3rd to the 1st line, won the calder, and was slotted on the 1st like to open the 2nd season (I don't sim any games). I got dropped to the 2nd line breifly when i went on a scoring slump, and then after about 10 games was back on the 1st. About the only thing I lead the league in is +/-.

I simmed a bunch of games towards the end but I that was because it was boring just laying waste to everybody.

That happened in 2011 for me. I just upped the difficulty (assuming you're not already on all-star or legend--whateer the top difficulty is).

Please D&D and MtG players have far more class than Fantasy Sports players...well except for that one time in MtG Tournament (camp), where I spanked my opponent in the quarter finals and he just chucked his deck across the room and then chucked the rest of his cards at a near by wall. Dumb ass must not have realized that the prize was only two boxes of Fallen Empires boosters...I bet he plays Pokemon now.

Yeah I just don't see the appeal in fantasy sports. Even less in radio shows that talk about it. No one cares about your fantasy team except you.

Do you see the appeal of Magic the Gathering, Pokemon, Yu-gi-oh (If I spelled that right can I have permission to kill myself)? If you do, apply that appeal to fantasy sports. It is basically the same thing except sports.

Well no, not really. Those are games of which the fans are the players of the game, it doesn't exist otherwise, there is no game. Pokemon or Magic does't exist outside of their games. The fans are the ones the determine the outcome of it. Not watching a hockey or basketball or football or baseball game hoping player X scores X amount of points. It's more like gambling than it ever is any kind of card game.

That is usually wrong. Every now and then you get an even draw against your opponent and it comes down to skill and savvy but you are subject to your draw, if you get a bad one, no matter how good you are you are probably losing. If you get a great draw and at least somewhat know what you are doing you are unstoppable.

So the draw can be akin the point totals of the individual players, those individual players are your cards.

I mean the game of whatever fantasy sport exists independently outside of that fantasy sport. But if no one plays Pokemon, Pokemon doesn't exist. You are dictating the existence of that "world". If yours and everyone else and their fantasy teams were here today, gone tomorrow, the Hawks are still playing tomorrow tonight. It changes nothing.

Actually, they are distict systems. All gaming systems like fantasy sports and Card & Dice RPG's use distict character development sets (being distict character criteria in RPG's and Player stats in Fantasy sports), and use a quasi-random element to make it into an actual gaming system. The 'hawks game tonight only seeds the values for the fantasy leagues much like the dice do for D&D. It is fully possible to have a fantasy team where all of your players have "good" games, but the real games the real players are plying in, they could all lose.

And since your fantasy players are not actually playing with each other and not actually playing against the fantasy team of others in your leage, the numbers are not directly correlated in the real world. It is possible for everyone on your team on any given night to have real good games, and a fantasy partner's team to have really bad games, yet in all of the real games, your players are on the losing team and their's are on the winning team.

In other words, you could take Fantrasy sports, and replace the games stats with a roll of a die or the drawing of a card through a shuffled deck and it would be about the same.
