Tibs,

Well written. One thing that did come to mind was your view over the decades of personal perspective. While I consider myself getting older I still don't know the pain (for lack of a better word) that you have endured going all the way back to '61.

Either way, young or old, new or bandwagon, this has been a ride that is sure to have

provided life long memories like you so eloquently describe.

Passion.......

"Pain" is a good word! "Guilt", "second guessing" "anger"---you almost get gun-shy to hope for the best if you've been around for the upsets! Every year that they lost, they were MY Blackhawks to explain and defend, but when they win they're everyone's Blackhawks. The truth is they're neither! They're gonna do just what they'd do, with or without me, or in spite of me.

I think I read some of that same feeling in RK's posts when he refers to 'new' or bandwagon fans. In reality there are no dues to pay to be a fan and each of our experiences are our own. Hell, it could be worse, I could be a Cubs fan! :violin:

I'm just enjoying it now! Go Hawks!

Good job.

I still get nightmares about that Lemaire goal in '71.

I was 6 when that happened, but I really remember getting dismantled by the Pens in '92. Don't want to experience something like that ever again.

This year will be different.

I can't believe that the Hawks considered him as a coach a while back and still cannot talk about his goal to this day.

Amazing post, you are an artist of the word and the pen.

I remember the pain of the last finals. I was driving across the country from Boston during the play-off run, hunting down a sports bar at every stop to watch the boys go on a winning streak... and then well yea. I remember our captain stepping up in the final game with a hat trick, but even that was not enough to rally the troops.

I had breakfast with Tony O' and I wanted to ask him about that Lemaire goal, but as a fellow goalie, I know well the goals that haunt us when we try to sleep... it was the past. Like the ball going through Buckner's legs, these moments fade when the shine of a silver cup is in front of them.

I think Kane put it best

"I don't know, I think it's almost like we're too young and stupid to know any better,"

That's the attitude to have. They are just young enough, and just stupid enough to do it.

Nice to see you posting here Dave. For those unaware of Bhawks35 is, here he is with the stick after getting it autographed by Tony. Dave, you should share the pic of him signing your 30 year old goalie stick... very cool.

Nicely written. Of course your right about the players winning. That doesn't mean I won't be a superstitious wreck watching the game. I've been watching the Hawks since I was six. 19 years, you have been watching them for 30 years longer. My grandfather was a Cubs fan for 80 years and by the end he didn't believe in any curses. Time must mellow you to those things.

i just can't believe in superstitions, it makes no sense at all. so i don't really get bothered about it. did he touch the trophy or not, goats here and there, cursed players...all a bunch of hocuspocus, who cares, it doesn't matter. the players and random chance is what determines the outcome. i'll just enjoy the ride.

It's funny you say this, because even now as someone who's really only been following just post lockout, co-workers and family treat me this way...

I was three years old when Chicago won the Cup in '61, and I don't remember it!

I became a fan of the Hawks around '65 or so and have remained one ever since.

1971 was heartbreaking. 1973, not quite as bad but very disappointing.

In 1992 I honestly didn't expect them to beat Pittsburgh anyway, but the run to the Finals was a good one.

This is good times, man - good times - that don't happen very often, so I'll cherish every moment. My brother too, is a lifelong fan of the Hawks and we try to get together to watch most of the games - talk about bonding! We might rent a fibulator for the Finals...
