My laptop and phone keep shutting down simultaneously

Ok so every time I close my laptop, I have to type in a password to open it. Recently (yesterday) almost every time I open it back up and type in the password, a message pops up immediately saying "Task manager preventing shut down." then shows cancel or force shut down. No matter what I do, it shuts down. and every single time that happens, my phone dies at the same time. My guess is that it has to do with the network? Because why would my phone shut off too? (it's connected to the wi-fi). I scanned my computer and nothing came back.

It's weird as ****. Any suggestions?

I'm not computer stupid by any means so it's pissing me off because I have no idea what to do.

safemode and check startup config.
run: msconfig in windows
go to /System/Library/Launch* in MacOS
etc/init in most linux distros including android IIRC.

Either you have something there that shouldn't be there, or a systemfile is corrupted/infected.

thanks I'll try that now. and sorry I have Windows 7, forgot to mention that in the OP.

edit: everything seems fine in the startup.

No matter what you scanned with, I'd try scanning with other programs cause it definitely looks like a malware problem. Download UVK (Ultra Virus Killer), click on repair and you'll see they have many 3rd party built in apps there that you can use to scan for malware.

Then look at the error it gives you, or not, check the error log and see if there is something you can google to see if others have the same issue related to the debug script.

It's either some kind of malware or...
If both your phone and computer are doing this, it's possible you had them both plugged into the mains and experienced a power surge. Not entirely uncommon, and hard to troubleshoot over the internet.

Holy **** I'm stupid. For some reason "shut down" was the option for "choose what happens when you close the lid" instead of "sleep"

wooooooooooooooow.
