After purchasing Madden 12 for Wii tonight, I've officially decided to get w/ the times and buy a system that actually has great games I can play w/ other ppl.

I like to play sports and first-person shooters primarily...the occasional RPG as well.

Question is, what to purchase?

ps3 pros: free online, blu-ray player

XBox 360 pros: everyone has one, best games

What should I buy? Should I wait for a new system? You all know more about the systems than I do...lemme know.

(I may be givin' out da thxs for good answers :smug2: )

you get what you pay for....free online service for ps3, but accounts got hacked and they were shut down forever....again you get what you pay for. 360 has a membership, but the platform is much better than PS3s stale online platform. I have both and prefer the 360 all day long over ps3.

Either or, find the games that you like the most and go from there.
I think the bluray player sells the PS3 NOW better than the 360, but who knows if the hacking group that attacked the PSN will be up to hijinks again, or if Sony actually fixed its security bugs faster and made it that much better?

What I do know is, historically the consoles will drop in price after xmas sales, so maybe you can think it over some? Look into hacking your wii to allow homebrew boot? :D

I've got a bluray player....but having another would be an added perk.

Well, you basically flash a hacked firmware onto the Wii with supported SD card or USB storage(depends on your Wii revision), then you load-up a homebrew app on the wii home menu, and that allows you to run backups.

I would google up on this stuff before you try it. I did it a year ago on a Wii, and it works brilliantly. But I had to find the right firmware for that Wii revision, and there are a few Wii revisions that don't support this, and must be chipped/Wii-key'd. It's easy to break your Wii this way, but if you follow the steps, double check everything, it's a pretty good risk to take.

I had a Wii for a few months, but I gave it to a kid in the family. But now I use Dolphin on my computer, and it works just as good(but you need a serious performing computer.)

If you wanna play shooters like Gears and Halo or racing games like Forza, get a 360. Or if you wanna dive into Call of Duty or Battlefield, get a 360. Better online stability.

If you wanna play action/adventure games like Uncharted or story driven games like Heavy Rain, get a PS3. If you don't want to pay to play online and will just casually go online, get a PS3.

Multiplatform games most of the time run better on the 360 because PS3 versions are ported some times. But it's also tough to beat the PS3 exclusives because Sony owns so many damn studios.

It basically comes down to my first two points, what genre of game do you want to play the most? If it's shooters or online oriented games, get a 360.

Why is the online a joke? I've never quite understood this sentiment. Is it cause you pay for it so it has to be better? Yes the PSN got hacked but that doesn't make the online an over all joke. Can someone explain this to me?

Battlefield never works online either does MLB the show the lag is unbear able and effects the game play. Plus no one plays on PSN and they dont have cheap head sets

I think battlefield is because of EA's servers. There are tens of thousands of people online at any given moment (that is a very lowball estimate) and the head set issue has nothing to do with the PSN. I've never played The Show online so I can't say anything about that. I never have issues with the online.

I think I've decided on a 360...

And I've also decided Craigslist is the greatest place ever to buy a used 360.

If you have the money to buy a new one...NEVER EVER buy a used 360...they are so dangerous

360s fit into standard computer cases. A lot of people do this mod, so they can upgrade the cooling system, use standard 3.5" hard drives, and other goofy modifications. Mainly for easy access, to those who like to run a dual firmware modchip, or switching dual optical drives.
