In my lifetime I had been to 5 Cub games and all of them were against the Dodgers(because I live in the LA Area) and on my "bucket list" and no i'm not dying was to see a Cubs game at Wrigley Field. Today I crossed another glorious wish off this list as I was apart of the close to 40,000 fans in attendance with my uncle and father right by the third base side in Section 226 and Row 17!
The view of the field was absolutely breath taking! What sucked about it was that it was during Batting Practice and right when we sat down, the Cardinals were on the field. The game itself was very interesting to say the least, but at the end of the game seeing Anthony Rizzo or as I like to call him "The Rizzinator"(yes a Terminator reference) spotted an 0-1 fastball for Rizzination and the sound of his bat said the lines as the ball went into the basket in left-center "Cardinals, you have been RIZZINATED"
I took the pleasure in doing some play by play for the Cub fans(and many Cardinal fans) around the section I was at but they focused the game more but I had a string of compliments that came my way after the inning was over. Because I was wearing a red sleeveless shirt(or basketball like jersey if you will) many Cub fans mistakened me for a Cards fan and than my response was "Um you do know the Cubs have red too right?" and it hit a light blub or something otherwise why would it make sense for a Cardinals fan to be "commentating" for the Cubs?
I felt like I died, went to heaven but came to Wrigley! Once we got out of the stadium, my dad bought me an Anthony Rizzo jersey. I wore it with pride on the way home because I had just witnessed what the future holds for the Chicago Cubs Organization. Even better because I get to wear this #44 blue alternate jersey again this Saturday when I go home to see the Cubs play the Dodgers. Last time I was there, my mom's side of the family was there and Mark Prior pitched that game in a 3-0 Cubs victory much thanks to 3 RBIs from Mark Bellhorn.
4-2 is the Cubs record when I see them live now. I hope it becomes 5-2 because I have SO MANY friends that are Dodger fans and I wanna rub it in their face. For good measure, I got seats near Vin Scully's pressbox
