This article breaks it down on what the acquiring team could do.
I think the "2 firsts" narrative kills the Bears in this deal. Our No. 10 pick is just too high a value compared to a team like the Commanders or Lions giving their 2 firsts. And, while I'm sure all the GMs would agree, there's going to be an optics to it that I think the Browns would tread lightly with. I feel they'll really want to be able to say "we got 2 firsts"... even, for example, if we gave our two 2nds, which is equivalent to a mid-first.

That said, the article suggests this can be a post June 1st move, which would benefit us a lot. If all goes according to plan, our next year first should be a lot less valuable that the 10 pick we hold right now.

meh I think 10th overall would basically be considered 1.5 1sts. And we could fill the gap with a future 2nd.
There's just no way Lions 28th overall and next years 1st would be considered a more valuable package.

I 100% get that. What I'm pointing out is that a lot of people are stupid. The immediate response by the media will be "they didn't even get 2 firsts?!?!". It shouldn't matter. Good GMs will just make moves and not worry about public perception, but I think they'll at least talk about it.

On the classic trade value chart 10 is 1300. 28 is 660 and next year's first at best is top of 2nd round this year so 580. So that is 1240 combined.

Turns out the 1.3m number is wrong. I initially thought the same as you said here. However OTC incorrectly listed his current option bonus money which would go to his new team as signing bonus which stays with Cleveland. See posts #15 - #18 in this thread. So the new team would be paying ~20m per both years.
Changes the calculus just a bit.

Well who is that?

We should have learned from Mack that a 30 year old Garrett is a short term move.

Williams is a long term window and all moved should build up. You can't give up both 20 million in cap and a first, and have Sweat on the other side.

I'll give them #42 and next year's third and I'll still end up regretting it.

To me this is a one for one decision. Do you give up Sweat for Garrett?

Just sign Taylor and draft one in first 3 rounds, kick Walker inside more.

The reason I offer them Walker in a package is because he came from the Browns.

I think you're missing that Caleb's rookie contract is a short/medium term window that we should care about.

We should urgently be trying to build a winner.

And Khalil Mack just had a 17 sack season two seasons ago. He aged fine. Trubisky was a bum and that roster was in steep decline. Would not want to offer two 1s though.

I think a trade down to 20, + 42 and 20,000,000 cap is still too much for the former #1 pick although I do understand the temptation for one of the most elite physical specimens in the entire league.

If we didn't have Sweat already maybe calculus is different, but we are likely to get over priced by a more desperate team.

I hope we re-sign Taylor early in FA along with 2 offensive lineman.
