Not sure how much ball velocity really is indicative of a QB actual arm strength. I recall there were questions about Deshawn Watson’s velocity being very subpar. And from this list, Josh Allen’s is an elite outlier.

But seems like some question Bagents arm, and in watching him I don’t see him as having a below average arm at all, so I looked up what I could find. According to this he has very solid velocity. Again, not sure the correlation because Mahomes shows as similar velocity to Bagent, and Baker mayfield shows as better than Mahomes. Take this info for what its worth. But I think he at least can throw with NFL velocity in midrange throws. And significantly higher velocity than Brock Purdy.

Bagent will be fine. He just needs to understand because you have a second option on a play doesn't mean you default to the second option.

What do I mean? He believes in his arm talent just a tad too much.

That's why it looked like Getsy called 3 WR screens in a row. They were supposed to be runs with an alert to screen. But of course, Bagent believes he can get the screen and surprise the Vikings defense.

This was his first live action in season play. I believe he'll be fine. He didn't learn not to default to the second option yet, but he will get it.

When/if he does put it together (before they ruin him too) he might actually play well.

And even though Bagent denies it, it looks like the rush affected that throw, too.

In yesterday's press conference Bagent said he got greedy because he had DJ one on one. But then he had "crap in his face", and he said he should have went to his checkdown.

that under thrown ball looked horrible, but to judge arm strength based off of one throw in the first game he's started is nonsense. I get it, some here don't like him and want starter material. That's fine... but seriously, it's way too early to tell what type of throws he can make.

Heard Kirwan and Miller talking about him on Sirius yesterday. They said he is talented enough to have been picked up by a big D1 school through the portal but he stayed out of loyalty. I guess time will tell.

He doesn’t have the type of arm to throw off balance. He has to be set and then he can make it happen. Thats the difference with him and why you saw that deep ball hang up like a duck. If set he can be functional.

I expect him to be efficient and accurate getting the 10 and under type throws but we won’t see many splash plays (20+ yards). If he does both then I’ll sit up in my chair and be surprised/excited.

he stayed because the two D1 schools that asked him to come, he would have been the backup QB on.

Deshaun Watson did have subpar velocity on his throws in college and at the combine. By his second year in the NFL, though, he had improved his mechanics and dramatically increased the velocity on his throws. If you watch clips of Watson in college, he had kind shot put release where he was throwing off his shoulder, and by year 2 in the NFL he was throwing with much better mechanics.

In contrast, Trubisky actually seemed to regress. He seemed to have better velocity and accuracy at North Carolina than he did in the NFL.

That's one of the things that makes scouting quarterbacks so difficult. Guys can develop in ways that are unpredictable.

In pre-season, it looked like he had a moderately strong arm on all the short and intermediate stuff, but we never got to see him throw it deep until last week—and it wasn't very pretty. His throwing mechanics look really weird when he tries to let it loose compared to the underneath stuff where the ball comes out a lot cleaner.

Though, I did notice on his deep ball that got called for PI, he threw the ball flat footed. There was no hitch to gather momentum in the throw, which probably explains why it was underthrown. The other deep ball was obviously bothered by the defender in his face.

Tyson Bagent has the strength of 20 men. That's all you need to know.

I also wanted to note, that list is all based on hand timed radar in their individual passing drills.

Most of these QB's are not specifically trying to throw as hard as they can, if they did, mahomes would have thrown much much faster than what he was listed. Their focus is more on footwork and timing/accuracy.

This isnt a drill where they just throw as hard as they can. When I first ran into this list when we drafted Mitch I assumed it was a drill, which it is not.

His balls aren't always crisp spirals and can float a bit but he's got plenty of arm strength. Some of that is his relatively quick but slightly different motion and that he's very willing to throw off platform with different arm angles etc. The Bear QB he most reminds me, stylistically, is McMahon. Qualitatively, I have no idea how good he'll be. He's obviously a longshot. Don't read into that stylistic compare and hopefully he'll use more discretion.

What that stat would tell me is that he prefers throwing early/quickly to resetting. His balls often look floatier when he throws right and that would come from not fully resetting and using arm angles like he does.
