I am a new member to this board, and I I initially signed up for this board to chat with Bears fans. Little did I know there was a forum for all Chicago teams. But although the Bears are fun to watch, Hockey is still the most fun, fast paced, hard hitting, energetic sport in the world.

The more characteristic part about hockey players is our different choices we have to choose what we play in. There are so many selections out there that everyones smelt hockey bag is unique. Here is what I use:

Easton S17 Ice skates, Bauer Vapor XXX inline

KOHO 350 gloves

Warrior Dolomite 100 flex shaft and

Easton Z Carbon Iginla right

Mission Helmet

Rebellion shoulder pads

Easton S9 elbows

Nike Bauer Shins

I really do not pay attention to my helmet or shins. The Iginla gives me a nasty backhand that allows me to top shelf from the top of the point. My skates are very nice. The eastons have a good center of balance and put you on your toes. My Bauer XXX used to be ice boots, but I slapped some cheap mission chassis on and they are very fast! The Rebellion shoulders have NO padding, but they move so free, and the pain from hits or blocked shots is outweighed by the fluency they offer to your dekes. I enjoy playing all the time, and I want to know who else enjoys tearingu up ice on here?

I generally bought the cheap sticks- as I found I had this nasty (and potentially expensive) habit of breaking the things at mid shaft (I guess because they were maybe too dried out at times) when taking snapshots. I bite a fair bit of ice when I get it off - but on the other hand -for the level I played at they were pretty hard shots.

I rebought a lot of stuff when I got back into things in about 2004 (since then I have again retired - as it is too expensive in my area to play regularly - or even go skating).

When I do get back to it I will need another pair of skates - as my toe guard got blown off by a shot in a game (never saw it happen to anyone -but all of a sudden I felt a drafty left foot ... hey look my sock ... oh sh*t - better get the hell off the ice.

Most of my gear I think is CCM -no idea what models -chances are they don't sell it anymore any way.

@tbo41fan: I used a CCM Vector all the time with the Ovie curve when I was younger.

@southern_cross: when my bauer vapors were on ice a slapper sliced my toe cover in half. F*CKIN HURT! Yea I flex the crap out of my stick. I use all of my weight out of my transitions, and exert about 90% into the shot and 10% into my balance off my leading foot. I'm only 5 foot 7 inches and weigh only 150, but my shot will snap alot of sticks 85 flex and under.

I'm only 5 foot 7 inches and weigh only 150, but my shot will snap alot of sticks 85 flex and under.

My favorite sight at the rink(s) were the guys that bought all of the high dollar gear - especially the composite sticks who had absolutely no clue how to shoot... or the guys that dropped $500 on skates without first learning how to skate...

those guys always cracked me up (well then there was the parents who were trying to vicariously live their lives through their kids...) -but that is probably for another thread... I don't think I have quite recovered from it even yet.

On the skate thing, I really liked the angle where apparently I had less testicular fortitude for refusing to tape up the skate and return to the game from some of those parent types that liked to hang around in boards ... but- yeah I was not sure that A) tape works, or that B) you could be whistled for playing with dangerous equipment (the league I was in here went by international rules)... but then again some people are clueless. But, I don't feel so lonely now...

CCM Vector was a quality stick

Only been playing for about 4 years now. Didn't have the money when I was a kid. Also I play inline because ice time is just too damn expensive right now. Hoping to get back out on the ice in a year or two.

Helmet: Reebok 6K with an Oakley visor. The most comfy helmet I've ever had.

Gloves and shin pads: Bauer X30s

Elbow pads: Easton EQ20

Stick: Bauer Vapor X 4.0 with the P88 (Kane) curve. Not too much of a curve on it so it's perfect for handling the puck either on the forehand or on the backhand. Love everything about it.

Skates: Bauer X7 - I've been a Bauer guy since I bought (rather, my Dad bought) my first pair of Vapor XX, which was probably 10+ years ago

Sticks: Easton Stealth - Been an Easton guy since my first Synergy which was also probably 10+ years ago. I know a rep so I had them do a custom blade which I made exactly like the Modano one before they got rid of it. One of my favorite blades because it has good balance between back/forehand. I have them in 85 flex and would go lighter if I could, but I snap enough at 85. There is a reason why Sakic and Hull used as low as 65 flex at times in their career...

Gloves: Easton and Eagle. I have two gloves that I love and once winter comes one will stay in my regular bag and one will go in the pond hockey bag. Eagles are from my Prep school and Easton are from juniors. Love them both and both couldn't be broken in more - actually have had each re-palmed.

Shoulder Pads: Don't usually wear them in men's league but when we play in a USA hockey tournament we usually have to. I bought a pair of the Sher-Wood throwbacks, barely any padding there so they are easy.

I finally had to get a pair of new skates and that killed me, but luckily I found a nice pair of slightly used ones online and then just baked them myself. Broke in nicely. I'm hoping I don't have to buy new equipment for another few years until my skates go out again. Bought a large bundle of my sticks so it is a long term investment of sorts.

Buying skates was always the worst....i always went used also...already broken in was always better

It is amazing how easy it is to break in the new skates. Bake them and they are usually good to go. If you go to a pro shop they will usually bake them and then compress them to your feet.

Mine were used only once by someone and they figured out they bought the wrong width. Store sold them at a good discount and I decided to pick them up online. Set the oven to 300 degrees and tossed them on a cookie sheet. They baked up real nice. Only took me about twice on the pond last year (got lucky considering I think I was only able to skate on the pond 4 times last year with the Chicago weather) and they were good to go for game use.
