NBA DRAFT 2009 Discussion

16th pick: Austin Daye should be drafted by the Bulls because of his upside. He's a 6'10'' Euro-type player that has great skill. He can shoot, run the floor, block, and pass out the post. The only knock is his weight. His frame is feeble. I think once he grows into his body, he will be a more productive player. I expect him to give us a Dirk Nowitzki shot at four position off the pick and pop with Derrick Rose. I wouldn't underestimate this guy abilities like most scouts did Tayshaun Prince.

26th pick: This selection is interesting because we do need a backup for Salmons and a backup for Deng once Gordon departure. Ultimately, you have to draft Nick Calathes with his ability to play the 1,2, and 3. I like his IQ and shooters range. He's a combination of Hinrich and Eric Piatkowski.

*I also think it's critical we sign a big body in free agency. Chris Andersen or Paul Milsap would be nice.

i think if he's still available, we should try to pick up either bj mullens or dejaun blair. they're opposites, one with all the physical skills but not refined, and one with all the refined skills who's undersized. they could both have great upside.

i agree with our second pick that we should draft a player who can back up the 2/3 if gordon leaves. otherwise we should try to draft some more 3 depth anyway, because deng is so injury prone and we've got nothing behind salmons.

i think we have tyrus who plays very similar to chris anderson, and paul milsap will ask for too much, so i don't think either of those guys are viable options.

Austin Daye could probably play the four in China, but not in the NBA. I think there is a place in the league for Daye, but it's at the three.

I don't like Calathes for the Bulls. It strikes me as keeping up with a non-working old way of thinking. There is more to the game than sitting on the perimeter and shooting three pointers. The Bulls have to be committed to drafting good, complete basketball players. Nick Calathes will probably only be effective on the offensive end, and even that's probably being kind.

The Bulls have two positions that needs to be addressed, power forward and backup shooting guard. I would be very happy with a T- Will and Gani Lawal draft. But I would be happy if the Bulls drafted Patrick Patterson and Danny Green. All four players would bring something to this team that's missing on the roster as currently constructed.

Why would Bulls draft another guy who can't shot the three in Twill

1. Size
2. Defense (On and Off the ball)
3. Rebounding
4. Playmaking
5. Penetration
6. Breakout Potential

There is more to the game of basketball than sitting on the perimeter and shooting threes. The Bulls have been doing that for years with very little to show for it.

I'm not a fan of T-Will. He's a good athlete but he's shaky. I think we can do better than him. He'll be a good role player that has intangibles. But I think we can do a lot better. For instance, if Jrue Holiday is available, I'll take him before I look at T-Will. Jrue has more upside too.

Holiday's game is alot more shakey than Willimas. Drafting Jrue would represent the old failed logic of drafting for one side of the ball. The Bulls need to get away from the concept of drafting combo guards. If (and when) we lose Ben Gordon, size at the two should be a prerequisite.

Tyrus Thomas is a bad basketball player, and good teams are built around guys that know how to play the game. So, I would be perfectly happy with Patrick Patterson at 16, and Danny Green at 26. Those guys would bring basketball IQ, and a toughness that's missing on the team.

Rose / Hinrich
Salmons / Green
Deng / Novak(FA)
Patterson / Thomas
Noah / Miller
