The news of this broke last week but EA made it official today.

NBA Live is now NBA Elite

http://blogs.suburbanchicagonews.com/games/2010/06/nba_live_gets_a_new_name.html

New name, new physics and new gameplay controls.

Looks like @K vs Live should be a nice battle this year. For the first time in several years I'll be going into the season giving both titles and equal shot. I've favored NBA 2K for a long time, but after last years missteps, and Live's gradual improvement, I'm gonna play both equally.

Blah, looks like the name change isn't changing EA's stance on the PC, so 2K wins by default for me.

Hardly elite, I will believe it when I see it. Every year they claim a new game system and every year 2k beats them. My $30 will continue going to 2k.

Did NBA 2K10 for the PS2 have framerate issues like the PS3 and 360?

When play would get in the paint, it would seem like players were moving in slow motion. The action would slow down.

It was the biggest issue that 2K had last year. I guess it wasn't a problem with the PS2 because its something you'd notice right away.

It didn't happen everytime down the court, but it happened enough.

Here's a pretty good interview with NBA Elite's creative director. He was the guy behind the skill stick in NHL. I'll tell you what, if he does for NBa what he did for NHL, then NBA 2K will have some stiff competition.

The new controls have me intrigued.

No, I haven't noticed it. The only problem I had was playing online sucked, people knew the spots and could just swipe the ball without even really guarding me. That and kyle kover would be like Reggie Miller.

As far as improvement goes,I thought NBA Live improved alot more than 2k this year. But I still like 2k better,it'll be interesting what they do with both games this time around.

I felt the same way about the NHL series.

I thought NHL 2K was better than EA's NHL for about 4 years.

Then in 2007 NHL changed the controls. Since then they have blown away NHL 2K.

Now the guy behind the NHL transformation is not working on NBA Elite. So if Dave Littman can have the same effect on NBA Elite that he did on NHL, that means NBA 2K will have some serious competition.

NBA 2K is still a good game. Their problems last year were framerate and disconnect issue as opposed to gameplay issues.

But whether you like EA or 2K, this is a good thing overall. Both companies pushing each other to get better. Gotta have that competition.

i hate the competition. i'n going to have buy both games next year. Basically this means i'll have to dump my gf, and quit eating to make more time for 2k and elite(live).

last years 2k was my least favorite of all. On a related rant, is there way that you can change 2k's controls on the offensive end so you can use triangle as a spin move rather than a hop step, and retain circle to be the pick control?

I know there's probably multiple control options. I don't know if there's one that will do the specific thing you want. I'm not sure. I got rid of NBA 2K a while back.

I tried the demo of 2K10 today again and for me it just sucks! Next season I will definitely play NBA Live 11 and NHL 11.

I´m playing live since 2005 and I like the series. I also had NHL Live 2002 which was a great game.

It´s not like I don´t give the 2K series a chance but they don´t look good to me.

I thought the career mode of 2K10 was good fun, although I never could land on the Bulls no matter what position I played.

NBA ELITE 11 ALL DAY!!!

That´s what I love about Live/Elite: I do the dribbling I want to do!

And it will get to the next level in Elite 11!

I'm actually excited for this game.

I've always told people how NBA Live/Elite has improved over the last two year. They've taken steps at being a much better game. With that said, I still haven't "looked forward" to playing an EA basketball game in almost 10 years.

I'm really looking forward to playing NBA Elite. 2K is still going to be good. It will be awesome if they full take care of their framerate and online disconnect issue.

I'm expecting two excellent basketball games this fall.

i ahte the disconnect between offline and online play with 2k! free throws and shooting are completely different than offline gameplay. i feel as if i have to get used to playing the game every time i switch from online to offline. playing as jordan ought to be neat though.
