NBA rules kept the injury-plagued Lakers from playing 4-on-5 against the Cavs

Coach Mike D’Antoni had just eight players at his disposal Wednesday night in Cleveland. There was enough empty space on the bench in the third quarter that center Chris Kaman could stretch out and take a quick power nap.

To make matters worse for the Lakers, Nick Young twisted his ankle and Jordan Farmar injured his left calf, and both needed to leave the game. Chris Kaman fouled out with 8:29 left in the fourth quarter, leaving the Lakers with 5 players.

Robert Sacre picked up his sixth foul with 3:31 left in the game, causing mass confusion. NBA rules state that a team cannot have fewer than five players, so Sacre was allowed to continue playing with 6 fouls.]

The Lakers went on to beat the Cavs, 119-108, thanks to a triple-double from Steve Blake, who played with a ruptured eardrum.

The funniest part is that the Eastern Conference is so freaking bad, that the Lakers (who aren't a playoff team) still won this game.

This is one of the few rules I learned about from video games. When I was younger, I used to switch sides, and foul out the other team's tallest players, just to get some Lulz from playing against a team stuck playing all short guys. I wondered if that was true, or just how the video game was programmed. Looked at the rules and yep, that's how it works.

Didn't keep them from beating the Cavs. The Cavs may be as dysfunctional right now as the Raiders have been.

See I use to think you could do 4 on 5 so I did that just like you in one of the NBA Live's except fouled out everyone..then I got 6 fouls for the 5th player and he stayed in the game and I was confused. This was before NBA even had all their rules on the internet, so I was confused for awhile. I don't think you got a tech for picking up another foul in the game though.

I'm glad it's accurate in that respect. I always wondered why some of the rules in some sports don't exist in long-running "sports simulation" franchises. The free kick in the NFL is one(unless it's there for 25, I haven't played it). Actually, I haven't played a sports game in over a year. For all I know, these obscurities have been addressed.
