big 12 is going to have 5 teams left.
Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St. and Baylor/Colorado, are going to the Pac-10 (Pac-16 now)
that leaves Kansas, Kansas St., Iowa State, Miz-who, and Baylor/Colorado to find their own conferences.
Kansas, Kansas St and Miz-who to C-USA, Mountain West, Big East, or SEC
Iowa St and Colorado/Baylor to the Mountain West

Big 12 is done IMO

The WAC had a 16 team conference back in the '90s, and it crumbled. I get the feeling that this may happen to the Pac 10 when they expand to 16 teams, but they will make a Pac 10 television network, like what the Big 10 has done

I would like to see K-State, KU and Misery join the Big Ten. That would make 15 teams and put more pressure on ND to join. You could have and east and west division with 8 teams each. Missouri has a long standing rivalry with U of Illinois and KU.

The bonus would be that I would get to see more Illini and Northwestern games here in Kansas.

I guess it would be weird though when the K-State Wildcats play the Northwestern Wildcats!

and the pac 10 gets the 6 schools from the big 12

baylor and colorado join smaller conferences like mw or c usa

ok so we got the big 10/pac 10 solved

wonder what would be done about the sec big east and acc

i'd think that those three conferences would turn into two mega conferences

People seem to be forgetting the Big 10 is a prestigious ACADEMIC conference. highly rated Universities like Northwestern, Illinois, Michigan, and Ohio State wouldn't want to accept schools that would hinder the conferences academic prestige. thats why you hear about Notre Dame, Rutgers, Maryland, Vanderbilt, Pitt, and Syracuse, because they're all really great academic schools. thats why you hear nothing about Kansas, Kansas State joining the Big 10 OR the Pac 10. Ivy League (Harvard, Yale, Princeton etc..), Big 10 (schools listed above) and Pac 10 (Stanford, UCLA, Cal-Berkeley) are probably the three highest rated academic conferences (my guess) and they're all high on academics and wouldn't want to do anything to lower their academic standing. This isn't just "Well Kansas is in the Midwest, put them in the Big 10", this has alot to do with Academics as well as Athletics.

Yea but no offense, Rutgers, Vandy and Maryland offer nothing in terms of athletics. ND would obviously be a great addition to the Big 10. Pitt and Syracuse would be okay I guess.

Maryland won a National Title in basketball this decade and always have a good basketball team. Vandy is a powerhouse in baseball. powerhouse. Rutgers just had a nice run in football not too long ago, and Greg Schiano is a good young coach. Basketball and football aren't the only profitable sports. its not all about athletics either. all three of those schools would be huge academic acquisitions. especially vandy.

this isn't about sports, this is about money. this is what can the Big 10 profit on the most. answer= a conference championship. they'll get one now. second answer= nebraska selling out every football game in a huge stadium. plus that with Big 10 network ratings to tune into those games. adding Rutgers/Syracuse opens up the New York media market for the Big 10. Pitt adds Pittsburgh and maybe Philadelphia.

Pac 10 are going to reap the rewards when they get those 6 Big 12 schools because they're starting up the Pac 10 network soon. more media markets=tons more money. and each of the schools in those two conferences will get paid a shit ton of money.

sports takes the backseat in this one folks. this is all about how the Big 10 can make money.

Nobody cares about college baseball. The big 10 will be the worst of the mega conferences with those acquisitions.

good counter argument. you just need to take a break with expansion discussion. "everyone is going to leave the NCAA"...classic.
