When you thank someone, they get 1 point. When you rep someone with that star thing, the amount of points you give them depends on your "rep power."

You can see your rep power when you click Settings.

LATEST REPUTATION GIVEN (REPUTATION POWER: 145)

So mine is 145. If I were to rep you, your total rep points would go up 145, increasing the amount of bars you have.

Yeah, I knew about the thank- 1 point and the rep points. Just didn't know what gave people more rep power than others
