A lady I know lost her husband about two years ago and just moved to her own place as a way to get past the memories. She has asked me to sell a bunch of stuff for her and part of it is this record collection. I was thinking of listing it as one lot with pics of the covers to go with it. There's 118 records. I was thinking of asking $300.00 plus shipping and handling. Thoughts?

With the best of my knowledge, the only albums that are going to find collector values, COULD be:

Kraftwork “The Man Machine” *Early pressing in good condition is $100, but a reissue is only a $5 album, maybe $20 brand new from a vinyl shop.
Pat Benatar “Love Is A Battlefield Special Extended Re- mix” *If it's the 12" UK mix is about $40-80
Fleetwood Mac “Rumours” *If it's a first pressing can be a $120 album. Unlikely you have one, because it did sell a TON of copies and likely you have a second-4th pressing, the most found on the market.
Doors “L.A.Woman” Japanese Audiopile, $30 all day long by itself. It's not as rare as you might think, but for vinyl hounds that like the Doors, this is one of the best copies to get a hold of.
The Moody Blues “Days Of Future Passed with the London Festival Orch *If it's the 1967 original release. This is the potential album that can bring you $300-600 by itself(dependent on playing condition), and about $60 by itself if it's the reissue. I would hang onto this one regardless, unless it's not in the best shape.

$300 is a great deal for a lot, if the condition is good. Most albums get flood damage and warping over time, so It's hard to know.

Also, throw The Hollies “Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress” on a stereo and rock out for the guy in memory. This is an awesome 45.

How do you tell what pressing a record is?

Every label marked their pressings differently. For Rumours, it's only worthwhile to investigate further if your needle picture looks like this.

What I'm most curious about, is which Moody Blues release you have. I actually don't have that in my collection and never did. I'm not a big fan of the music, but for Moody Blues fans, the original release has become an iconic example of over-produced music that flopped, because the engineers used masters that were recovered from accidental trashing or something like that(I forgot the whole story.) People who don't like the Moody Blues, but collect albums, hang onto these things.

How much is this worth?

Chuck Woolery!

I don't know. But if your dad has that one in his collection, that is awesome.

You posted that song on my VM a couple of years ago, and I finally listened to it today :D.

It's actually solid for a future game show legend.

I never saw the 12" of that Thomas Dolby(prolly not a single, and just missing the jacket). But even then, Dolby, as big of a cult following that he has, is pretty worthless. Not a first pressing of Rumours. It's a 180G release though, like $5-10 LOL (yep, big difference). Reissue Moody Blues, while a 67 "mixing", the most common on vinyl, being worth the least(you either want the '67 original runs, or the original remix from seventy-something.)

Sorry brett. [from what I see] A load of duds. $300 is fair(although as a 'lot', I dunno if someone will take them all off you in one swoop for that much). The owner didn't do a good job of storing these, as you can see nearly all of them have crate marks, lot of heat fade from sitting in a bad spot. Maybe you can compare the J-imports with their going rate on ebay.

Excellent advice Crys, and thanks so much for your help. I'm thinking of listing it all at an opening of $75 plus s and h and see what happens
