Alright guys I'm brand new to ps3. I had a ps2 but never got online on it or anything and I just got my ps3 today and this is my first time on one and everything. I bought my console used off of eBay and the guy before didn't wipe it and still had his stuff on it. I had no interest in any of it obviously so I had the thing wiped. I then set up my settings and then proceeded to make an online account. After setting everything up, I turned my console off to go do something and came back about 45 mins later to finally start playing and it came up and said my Data was corrupted. I re-entered my info and have not turned it off since as I'm playing but did I do something wrong? Will this be an occuring problem? I don't want to start playing games then turn it off just to turn it back on and find that all of my stuff got deleted. Thank you guys for the help

I never had a data corruption problem. I had save file corruption on PS3, well, I've had some form of save corruption on every system that I have ever owned.

First off, is this a fat or slim? Also, do you think the guy that sold it to you, sold you a PS3 that might have a dying HDD?

It is a slim and I don't believe so. The system was well kept and the description said it was in excellent condition. If you put it in a box wrapped up and plastic wrapped the box and sent it out to a store you wouldn't be able to tell it was used. I guess I should have mentioned that I started it up twice and it didn't say data corruption. The guy before me that had it had all of his stuff still on it. I wiped it, put on my stuff, then turned it off and when I turned it back on AFTER doing the wipe that came up. That's why I was thinking I was doing something wrong  he had a lot of games played and had pictures on there and all of that was fine. The data corruption thing didn't come up when I turned it on until after I did the data wipe.

Now I remember why I got a 360 because I didn't have to deal with this shit

So based on outside appearance, you assume it's like new? Anyways, if you had the issue once, and not again, then it could just throw a generalized error. A system wipe on any platform is very intensive, and should be a low-level format. Formats are pure physics and hard drives are very sensitive. Even the best technology and materials in the world are unable to promise flawless drive formatting. There is a joke about this, because the first chip set to create "error-proof" standard bus formatting, was called "promise", and it was actually very good, but still not "error proof".

I personally never had that issue. Like the 360 and all of the RROD issues, I never had that either. I have all 3 consoles, none of them give me any issues. All of them are designed to be simple enough for toddlers and tech-illiterates to use(not an attack on you). But sometimes that simplicity backfires, and it makes describing and troubleshooting a problem next to impossible, because everything is hidden or inaccessible to the regular user.

I was thinking it could have just been a one time thing but wasn't sure since I know nothing about the system. I played a little portion of Last of Us and shut it off to watch the rest of the game. Kind of scared it might delete everything again but I'll keep my fingers crossed. Could you also tell me why my clock won't change either? I put in my time zone but whenever I'm on the dashboard it's actually an hour behind my time. Not really understand why that is

Well, since the original firmware came out, the DST standards were changed. I'm not sure if it affected the PS3's time system or not, so that leads me to ask if you did the system updates. Sony pulled the buggy firmware, so it should prompt you to do the most recent stable firmware.

No I didn't because I had heard about that update fucking people's system up so I didn't want to risk it. I'll definitely do that then....not a major deal but it is annoying
