I'm coming out with an article tomorrow covering the first week of the season. Here's an excerpt. I think it needs to be said, because I'm sick of the selective criticism so rampant on the airwaves and in print:

I unfortunately re-watched the Milwaukee game last night. Neil Funk, near the end of the game, commended Kirk for his work on Brandon Jennings. At the time Dumb Funk uttered these comments, Jennings had 21 points, on his way to a career high of 25. I had just re-watched a game full of plays where Jennings blew by Mr. Defense at will. Jennings is exactly the kind of quick ballplayer Kirk can’t guard (i.e. T.J. Ford, Travis Diener), yet that fact didn't prevent our idiot announcer from giving viewers a false impression that our Captain was doing a good job.

Hinrich played 32 minutes against the Bucks. He committed 5 fouls, and drew none (0-0 from the line). He was 2-9 from the field, missing several wide open jumpers, with 2 turnovers. He makes just over $115,000 per game, and he stole ever penny that night. The Bulls won in spite of Kirk Hinrich against the Bucks. As a captain and one of the four primary scorers for this team, he deserved to be ripped. He did nothing to deserve a commendation, but that exactly what his #1 fan, Neil Funk, gave him. It’s a common habit for Funk to heap undeserved praise on players who get into a good fundamental defensive stance and do little else.

Salmons has taken a lot of heat so far this season, and rightly so. So has Rose. But Kirk’s 2-15 so far this season from the 3-point line. He’s missed his last 10 3-point attempts. He's shooting 35% on the season (13% from the 3-point line). He’s in the top 3 in minutes played. He’s #1 on the team for FOULS COMMITTED, yet eighth on the team in Free Throw Attempts (6), just behind Taj Gibson’s 9. This is the same kind of start for Kirk that got Skiles fired. I expect Vinny to suffer the same fate sometime this season.
Of course, the Captain’s received a pass for his poor start. Well, he won’t get one from me. He’s had 1 solid game (San Antonio), one average game (Boston), and two embarrassing performances (Heat and Bucks). He needs to it pick up. I call it like I see it. I wish everyone else would start doing the same.

The 3pt shooting is inexcusable...there is no explanation for that...that is just sad...

Have you ever tried to interview Neil Funk?

No. Wouldn't want to. He's an embarrasment. I would only want to berate him in front of his friends and family. I already asked Wennington to relay the message that he's a classless jerk.

On the way in today, I heard several people say, "What's wrong with Rose." To cure what's ill with Rose, you need Salmons and Hinrich to start hitting some shots. He'll look a ton better once we get 5 guys out of the paint.

we all knew kirk had problems with his athleticism for a while now. He's far better at gaurding smaller 2 guards than athletic pgs.

hinrich and gordon covered up each other's deficiencies very nicely.

Can I get a mulligan on picking Kirk Hinrich to win 6th man??????

Maybe this is it with Kirk Hinrich. I thought maybe he'd bounce back and play more like the player form 06/07 but I'm starting to think he's basically a roll player now. A highly paid role player.

You can look at it negatively, or you can look at the fact all three of our guards have been well below expectations yet we're 3-2 with a tough schedule. Kirk (like Rose and Salmons) wont play this bad all season. 5 games is a small sample size, as I said in the "BG cures cancer" thread.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  2. Golden State Warriors
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
Kirk WILL not be this bad for the entire season. If he is, I will announce my retirement as a Kirk Hinrich supporter and shun myself from all Bulls fans for clearly being an idiot about Kirk Hinrich.

Anybody listen to the PREpregame show on the radio yesterday? More selective criticism from Steve Kashul, who called out Salmons for his poor shooting. Just Salmons.

In fairness Salmons is taking about 5 more shots a game than Kirk, and shooting significantly worse, so if you were only going to mention one guy, it would make sense to mention Salmons.

salmons just had a kid. things must be hectic in his life. he also lost his confidence. i duno. Like FRed said in his example, he no longer had the comfort awarded to him by bg. he needs some help to take the pressure off him from the perimeter. he's the best 3 pt shooter on the team, and thats a burden he cant handle.
