After I left the dealership without buying they contacted me to sweeten the deal. I have to go in tomorrow to sign the papers on the last day of the month or the deal is off. What resources do you guys use to check prices on new cars?

My deal
2014 Subaru Legacy limited 2.5L
-Add ons
Moon roof package
Remote start added
Floor mats

$25,700

*edit*. also getting 63 month 0.0% financing

That's a pretty good deal. Especially considering the financing. Dealer is making very little on that transaction. Did they screw you on the trade in?

And if any of you say TrueCar is a good place to get information, I will ban you. Kidding of course - they have pretty good pricing data. I just hate them because they are a competitor to one of my ventures.

Search around for the same vehicle to see what the prices are, IMO.

One question, what was the asking price before negotiations? Theses dealers pay next to **** all for these vehicles, the mark up is insane.

Also, my buddy has 2013 of that Subaru style(not sure if it's a Limited)and he really likes it.

Also, don't let them advertise on your bumper for free. I walked away of a deal because of that and ended with 800$ cash after signing the papers because of the ad on my bumper :)

It pissed me off how every time I took my car to the dealership they kept putting on those plastic license plate covers. I told them you people aren't paying me for advertising. Knock it off. I didn't get Bears plates to cover them up.

BTW sounds like you're getting a good deal.

That's not true, at all. At least in the US. Dealers make a bit on the sale, but most of their revenue comes from other places in varying percentages (trades, service, financing, incentives etc).

Maybe it is different there, but they make a fair bit up here.

Also Sere, that car is almost 40G's up here. We pay through our noses for "things" up here compared to you guys.

Email some places with the car you're looking for. You might save another grand or two

Totally wrong. The difference between invoice and MSRP is usually about 6%

I appreciate everyone's input. (even Omelet) After digging around on various sites I feel pretty good about the deal. Now I'm trying to find pricing on the extended warranties. I've never been a big fan of them however my wife is and I know they are going to offer one.

I retire from the USAF this year and my next job will have me putting a lot of miles on this car for the next 5 years in the Rochester NY area. I'm going with an all wheel drive car because I have been paying attention to the weather this winter and it looks nasty up there.

The extended warranties through the dealer are up for negotiation. Negotiate and argue everything. Tell that finance ****** take some more off or do something. That asshole has instant dealer coupons(or whatever they are called) sitting right in his desk drawer.

And tell those bastards you aren't leaving without a hat and a Tee, lol

Well, I think you are on crack to buy a brand new car.

But that looks like a pretty screaming deal.

Oh also, if you want a price check, call some other dealers in your state and ask if they can beat the deal.

Props on getting a new deal. But I can never buy a new car. I just never saw the interesting in driving the car off the lot and then losing 15-20% what I paid.

Not anymore. The internet has leveled the playing field for consumers.

Like I told NVA, maybe it's a little different in the US, but 6% mark up?? I seriously doubt that. Unless of course you believe that NFL owners barely make any money too.

One of my best friends (while growing up) dad owned 3 dealerships. I was given clear instructions from this man on how to and what to do at a dealership. His first tip was never buy brand new, 2nd was lower the price as much as you can and then walk away to sweeten the deal and his 3rd was never fall in love with just one car.

So I took the advice of some posters here and called two other Subaru dealerships within a 100s mile of here. One told me that they can't match it let alone beat the deal. The other said that they could offer me the same deal and offered to give me an extended warranty at "cost". When I asked what the cost was he said I would have talk to the finance guy about that. No thanks.

So that proved to me that I should be happy with my deal. My wife and I filled out the finance application last night so I have texted back and forth with my sales rep a few times today to confirm that the app was received and just now that we are approved for the 0.0% financing.
Knowing that I am walking in there tonight with the price and the finance rate agreed upon makes this seem unbelievably stress free.
