OK, follow me on this silliness. I believe you can teach anyone in relative short order how to bunt at a major league baseball. I would say within a year anyone with some sort of athletic ability can be taught it. I would also say that within a year anyone could be taught to slap the ball as well.

How about spending $10 million dollars on a new leadoff hitter names Usain Bolt? From reading his Wiki profile it seems he’s not too bad of a cricket player so I think he could translate.

Have you ever tried to hit a baseball?

Yes. Bunting is easy. Slap hitting is harder. You gotta remember that basically if bolt could get the ball to the ground he is safe

He plays cricket

If MJ could do it bolt could

MJ actually played baseball for quite a while, though. I understand some of the skills translating from cricket, but it is a completely different swing. And reading pitches would be completely different between the two sports. It is an interesting idea, but I think the White Sox could find a better use for 10 million dollars.

I think u are missing my point. Ignore the money. We pay Bolt X where X is the amount of money he would be willing to play baseball. He needs to learn only two things. Bunting and slapping. As long as the ball can hit the ground he can out run basically every batted ball

I bet he could even be a very serviceable of if he was trained to catch since he'd never need a good jump

I watched cricket in person in Sri Lanka earlier this month and the swings are comparable

This thread is funny but completely ridiculous.

Ozzie is married to the idea of having a true leadoff hitter, I get that. Unfortunately, there are probably only 10-12 leadoff hitters of any substance in this league, at the moment.

depends on what each persons def of leadoff is. OBP OBP OBP??? Speed??? Not saying you are wrong or anything. i want an OBP machine leading off. Pierre is pierre, but he needs to steal bases to be effective. If he isnt than he isnt worth it.

on a side note: JP after the game with the cup was kinda cool. I like how he responds to the critics and isnt a jerk off athlete.

So the Sox for sure won the Cup already? I thought the Cubs still had a chance if they tied up the series but it doesn't really matter, the rules for this trophy are kind of stupid.

OBP + Steals. There aren't many of those around.

But as you said, it depends on what a person defines as a leadoff position. Each manager is different. I'm going by what Ozzie wants. Ozzie wants OBP + Steals. Fucking Jason Werth is leading off for the Washington Nationals. Seriously...

Naw, have to win the following overall series to overthrow the sitting champ. Tie doesn't cut it.

But crap, what a stupid "trophy."

yep!

I know you hate the cubs, and im indifferent...dont give a **** if they win or lose....but ideally I would want a guy like dome in RF, move CQ to left and dome be your leadoff man. thats just me.

last years numbers are not out of reach.

.275 BA .341 OBP
the only issue is he wont sniff 68 stolen bags, which was his bread and butter.

I think stoney said it best today, we wouldnt be bitching about him if rios, dunn and beckham were hitting well.

Ummm, Michael Jordan didnt do it, he batted .202 with a .289 OBP in AA. Bunting isnt easy and just because hes fast doesnt mean he can beat out every throw.
