One house adjacent to me it appears like they moved out.

Another house across the way had new people move in.

What's your approach to new neighbors?

I like to shake them violently by the shoulders and scream the happy birthday song.

Then I briskly walk off, never to be heard from again.

Bring them one of @The Hawk hand carved fertility statues as a peace offering.

I like to creepily scope them out for at least 30 days to make sure they are normal. Like, I just got new neighbors next door and the lady walks their cat so I probably won't interact with them. The guy also wears a Packers hat. Just not a good fit

So your neighbor is a cat lady with a dog-husband, how nice.

New neighbors are walking around offering people chili and cinnamon rolls.

Must be from Iowa.

I've been in my house for about 14 months. Moving in during the winter and while covid was still a thing, didn't give much opportunity to meet the neighbors.
  • The guy across the street helped us shovel the first day we were moving ourselves in (corner lot, heavy snow and no snow blower yet). That was a solid move to scope us out.
  • The neighbor across the other street just shouted "Welcome to the neighborhood." I couldn't even see them and didn't hear from them until a few months ago when they left their front door open. Nobody answered the door bell, so I asked another neighbor to call and make sure everything was alright. Closed the door for them and they came by to thank me later
  • The neighbor behind them are the most social. They introduced themselves and do small chat all the time.
  • I've never met or even seen the neighbor behind me. I could be standing behind her in the checkout line and not know. I've talked to her son and his wife a few times. He helped me roll an arcade cabinet down the Uhaul ramp. Nice guy.
  • A woman on the next street left as a cake.
  • I've never met the guy directly next door to me. He owns like 5 businesses and is never around.
  • A couple neighborhood randos say hi if they are walking by while we are doing yard work. Maybe it would happen more often if had on porch for me to sit on with a drink and/or cigar.
Most people say nothing and I don't judge them because I do the same. I think we need a new puppy to break the ice.

We just moved into our first detached home (as in not condo) in October. Everyone on our block pretty much keeps to themselves other than like cordial waving but the one thing that skeeves me out is a car parked across the alley from our garage with tinted windows almost all hours and days of the week, running, no joke.

I'm not about to go knock on its window and introduce myself.

Real talk, I rarely see my neighbors. I saw one guy when I was moving in, never saw him again. The people that live across the hall from me I've seen one time and we introduced ourselves. The guy down the hall I've seen a couple times but he acts like I don't exist when we pass each other. The people directly beneath me acted like I was gonna rob them when I said hi. The only one I see is the old lady downstairs and we'll talk for a bit. She's really nice. Gave me a bunch of strawberry eclair ice cream bars because they couldn't fit in her freezer. There was like 18 of em left in the box.

Just because a random dice roll on the craps table called earth happened to land in a manner that has us living in close proximity does not mean we are friends.

I've had awful neighbors and great neighbors. The most recent dice roll has us fortunately with great neighbors.
