Most likely. They could also resign Fowler and look to trade Baez and Almora for a young starter.

The retooling this offseason should be interesting.

I don't think the Cubs will keep Fowler, and maybe not Arrieta...but they should keep both. The issue you run into with Wizard GM's is they sometimes don't value premium talent enough because they value themselves as being able to replace it easily.

Fowler means so much to these Cubs its kinda ridiculous. He seems to always be on base when they need him. They were a .500 team without him for fucksake.

Soler/Arrieta need to have themselves a postseason. I think you just keep Zobrist as your high quality utility guy, and trade Soler unless he shows up in October again, then his late season or cold season or whatever production is something to start thinking about.

Nobody is untouchable, obviously, but Baez is as close as they come.

Nah, if they trade someone more than likely it will be Soler.

Schwarber will catch some next year, Zobrist has a three year no trade in this deal, he is not going anywhere.

Javy can be the top defensive shortstop in baseball, deserves to be a starter at the same position each day, so its not gonna be Javy and someone being dealt, its probably going to be Javy for multiple players to start the discussion, then throw in a low A ball kid to return some favor.

If Javy does stay here, it will be interesting to see if people ***** about Javy getting 16 million to be a utility guy since it was OK to pay Zobrist that much.

But Javy is still the final draft of Hendry, so to me, that always makes him an option to be moved.

I'd lose my mind if they trade Baez. Very good player who has already shown immense improvement, and he comes to play when it really counts. Something Rizzo has yet to do.

Zero chance they trade Baez. He is trending towards elite and he'll be our 2B for a long time. Him and Russell make perhaps the best 2B/SS tandems in the majors. And he comes up with massive hits.

Baez isn't going anywhere.

Baez has kept this game within three runs tonight. The guy is going to be a star. There is no way Zobrist is taking his spot.

Soler is probably gone and Fowler is looking for a long term deal. I doubt Epstein pays that much for a soon to be 31yr old outfielder

Baez won't be going anywhere,

Without a doubt none of these guys goes anywhere this offseason. Resigning Fowler and Chapman should be a huge priority for Theo and the Cubs. Fowler has meant so much to this team. They were 43 games over with him in the lineup and 2 over without him. That whole July disaster was a direct result of Fowler going on the DL...Baez will be back next year as will Schwarber.

Absolutely right man. Russell, Baez, Rizzo, and Bryant will likely be All Stars for the next 10 years. The Cubs will send their entire infield to the All Star game many more times.

Radio pundit ventured that next year Baez will be the regular 2nd baseman. I think that forces Zoberist into a rotation with Schwarber and fill in for Baez and Heyward.

Chapman already turned down 4 years $60M from the Cubs. He would be worth that for the first 2 years but not the last 2 years when he will have lost 5-6 mph. Expect the Giants to make a huge play for him
