3) Ryan Poles: The Chicago Bears general manager has spent the last three years trying to build this team into a contender. This is the offseason when he faces the most pressure to make that happen. The Bears flopped in their first season with 2024 No. 1 overall draft pick Caleb Williams operating as the starting quarterback, partly because they surrendered a league-high 68 sacks. Poles responded to that by aggressively rebuilding the interior of his offensive line. He secured trades for Chiefs guard Joe Thuney and Rams guard Jonah Jackson while also signing center Drew Dalman to a deal on Monday that will make Dalman the second-highest paid player at his position. The Bears still have other needs to address -- especially when it comes to finding a pass rusher -- but Poles couldn't have begun this offseason any stronger. The Bears watched the NFC North turn into the toughest division in football last year. The going won't be any easier for them in 2025 unless this rebuilt offensive line lives up to the hype.

Bears sign C Drew Dalman for 3 years, $42M
Grade: A+
— The Bears traded for new guards Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson and this rounds out their overhaul of the interior offensive line to much better protect Caleb Williams and upgrade the run blocking.
Bears sign EDGE Dayo Odeyingbo for 3 years, $48M
Grade: B
— Chicago has money to spend and got a little too splurgy here for a pass-rush boost.
Bears sign DT Grady Jarrett for 3 years, $43.5M
Grade: A
— Chicago gets the ideal seasoned interior player for its new DC, Dennis Allen.

Drew Dalman, C, Chicago Bears
2024 stats: 9 games started, 0 penalties
Reported terms: 3 years, $42 million, $28 million guaranteed
Previous team: Atlanta Falcons

Carmen Vitali: New Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson said during his Combine availability in Indianapolis that he thought it was possible to turn over an entire interior offensive line in one offseason. Turns out, that was more a promise than a possibility. After reportedly trading for both Joe Thuney and Jonah Jackson, two Pro Bowl guards earlier this week, Johnson and general manager Ryan Poles snagged the best free-agent center on the market in Dalman. His deal makes him the second-highest paid center in the league, as he’ll aim to stay healthy and take some work off second-year quarterback Caleb Williams’ plate. Johnson knows his offensive overhaul is a nonstarter without a solid offensive line, and the Bears finally made good on revamping it. Now, Dalman, who missed eight games last season with a high-ankle sprain, needs to stay on the field to make it work.
