Yet to try it, about to start.. What's it all about? I've heard great things about it.. any tips or anything for me to follow?

Or 6! You don't start with much and they don't exactly throw pucks at you. Keep an eye on you cap situation, it'll catch up with you pretty quick. I think toureys are the way to go to get pucks, assuming you don'tget kicked off of your connection in the championship game. Happened to me twice yesterday!

So I started and got a lot of nothing obviously with the initial pack, got the extra pack for activating the online stuff and got Vanek 85 Overall. Should I sit my really young players and Vanek and just try upgrading them or what?

Play Vanek! I got Shane DOan in those packs and he is still on my roster. Your cap won't even be close to full for a while. You are going to need him. You have to use boost cards to make players better rather than play them up, you would be better served grinding out some easy pucks on a low level, get some jumbo packs, use boost cards on better young players, or players you are partial to. When you start getting better players (80+) think about auctioning some of them off for pucks to help build the team, just get your roster built up first. Spending 10 bucks on jumbo packs would REALLY REALLY help. I got a Luongo and sold it for 5500 pucks so pla it smart and you can build a really solid team.

Damnit I really don't want to put money into buying packs lol.. So play Vanek? Play online or against myself or what..?

either way, you should win more playing the CPU but I think you make more pucks playing other users. You don't have to spend money, it'll just take you a bit longer to get where you want to be, which isn't really a bad thing.

yeah but the bad thing is you use his career game limit up. Thats why i'm glad i got the older vet guys so when they expire i have the prospects built up to compete

this is a great thread. a much needed one since this ultimate team is completley seperate from all the other game modes, and the most in depth.

this mode is amazing. even though my jumbo packs have been bad, i have managed to steal some cards and make money off of them 2 kyle beachs both 900, i sold both for 5,000 a piece (homers) :) i am hooked on this virtual hockey ebay engine.

if you are just starting you can go a few ways.

buy some microsoft points for jumbo packs/players etc

play offline games/tournaments with good multipliers and soon you will gather some pucks. know a steal when you see one, and flip the steal for more money.

I'm loving this mode too. And I don't typically like these type of fantasy team games.

I do realize I suck at the game. As I've mentioned several times, I don't play online. I've only done season/GM mode the last few years. As a result, I'm not skilled enough for online competition. I think my record is 1-8 or something. I need to beef up my skills vs. human competition.

I bought a jumbo pack and got Taylor Hall. His max is a 93 and he has a 123 game career. I got him up to about an 88 now and added a 30 game contract to him. So he'll be my cornerstone for quite some time.

I got taylor hall as well, filled up his training up to an 88 and sold him for 17,500 pucks....you should really try and sell him to get more packs IMO

I can't decide whether to get this game or NBA Elite. I'm already getting NBA 2K11, but I want to get use to the controls for Elite next year. I always love playing these hockey games even though I'm not that into the sport

I think I will sell Hall. If I can get that much for him. Get more packs, make my team stronger overall - which I need. I'll do it and tell you guys what I get.

so kush how is you team looking?

Im sitting at 6 tournaments won. the nation tournament is so close to impossible. now 3 times been to the finals and lost. and the damn tournament is on superstar! Arggghhhh
