All of this other offseason drama won't mean a thing if there's not hockey to play in the winter. Here's a series of tweets from Sports Business Journal reporter Liz Mullen about the latest news:

Source: The #NHL has provided the NHLPA with notice that it wants to terminate and/or modify the CBA. The labor deal expires Sept. 15, 2012

Source: Under NHL CBA one side must notify the other if they want to make changes 120 days before it expires. #NHL notified NHLPA today.

An NHLPA spokesman confirmed the NHL sent notice, as required by CBA, that it wants to change or end deal. Deal expires Sept. 15, 2012

#NHL CBA states the old CBA shall remain in effect, year to year, unless and until either party sends notice 120 days before it expires.

of course there's a chance games will be lost.

the deadline isn't the traditional first week of october- it's the winter classic. they can lose 3 months of games. they can't blow this years outdoor game though.

i think we all realize this (hopefully)

we just want it to get done in a timely manner so we don't lose hockey

What a true "powerplay" by the players considering how much of a mess the NHLPA organization wise, etc. He's an unbelievable representative.

The unfortunate thing is, of course, is that the fans always, always suffer.
