I will be writing an essay of sorts on the NHL and the nuts and bolts for the new fans. It will be comprised of rules in detail, not just the rules but a in depth explaination of rules.

I will also be aiding some of you on how to scout players and what to look for in a player. I dont want to hear anymore about how kris Versteeg cant go because he is a leader or very grindy...that stuff just needs to stop.

I have been in hockey all of my life 28 years or so. I started skaing at 2. have had my fair share of behind the scenes of the NHL dating back to the old chicago stadium. So all you bandwagoners.....it is time to be taken to school. coming soon to a URL near you.

As one that loves to watch the game, but often times am confused at some of the happenings, I fully support the idea of this article.

Waits to see if there will be retro stuff like the good old two line pass.

Looking forward to this. I wouldn't consider myself a veteran Hockey fan so it'll probably help me some!

Hockey + sabr = :woot:

Kidding. But dont be a sabr-hater. ive grown to be more of a moderate on the subject.

But dont worry dewey hockey isnt really a game that lends itself to statistics. Its very much a team sport where hustle and grit matter and nothing happens in a vaccumm.

I have heard that there are some new UZR-ish goalie stats coming out though. Could be interesting.

Or the old, you cut a guy with your stick, you're ejected rule. Refs these days are too sissy to call a 5 minute major for high sticking w/game misconduct (unless the player is pulling a McSorely). You can always count on the 4 minute double minor nowadays if there is blood and it was seen.

Ya tried to make damn sure you didn't clip anyone back then.

Plus with guys not wearing helmets for the most part, guys were much more conscious about their sticks - and would resolve "issues" by dropping their gloves and sorting it out. I doubt a lot of the "oooh they oughta kick anyone out that fights" crowd actually get that the stick work is actually the bullshit part of hockey -and fighting was a valid method for sorting out differences.

I think that with the dilution of talent caused by expansions tended to get underskilled guys in to the league, while at the same time redefining the game -not always for the better - some of those guys are only so tough as their slashing skills.
