Nice job perk, but could you unplug to take advantage?

Paid, Paid Vacation

I know I could. Pretty much do it everytime I visit the in-laws in Panama, and don't miss cellphones, email and back in the day, a pager (does anybody still have a pager?)

Would not be a problem for me and to some extent I already set that expectation when I am away. I have a good team and the majority already know how my decision making process works (good mentoring), so I have high confidence that they will execute as expected. And if they do not know how to handle a situation I have a nice little SOP that gives them the answers...along with an appendix called WWDD (What Would Dave Do), for those odd ball situations. Amazing how easy it is to unplug and enjoy a vacation when expectations and standards are well documented and enforced.

I could easily unplug everything from work, but not life, I still like having internet access to read news and such. I already unplug from work every time I leave. I tell them that I will be unavailable and if they need anything to call. I don't think I've gotten a call yet.

I could totally do that. I don't think the wife could. She is a worker bee.

I agree about liking to access the internet for my personal shit. I could totally detach from work.
