Hope you weren't expecting him back in Chicago.

Very interested to see what the numbers end up being.

That's great that he signed it, but that really means nothing in regards to him ever coming back. Depending on the hit of course.

At the end of the day we gave up what Kim Johnson or Barker or something got a guy with a lot of potential. Maximized that and had a great run and turned Barker into 3 prospects and cap room. I'm not saying those prospects have to be as good as Leddy, but if they are better than Barker we still win. hah. Wish we could have gotten a pick or 2 in there instead of a prospect though.

His cap hit is more than Hjalmarsson and about $38,000 less than Keith.

When he wins his first two Norris' trophies :elephant: :elephant: , hope the Isles bump him 38K :smug2: , though I'm sure his K has a bonus if he wins one.

Well they've built up a lot of cap space lately so they can roll with this now and hope it is a worthy deal or steal of a price in a few years.

Not bad considering the cost of doing business these days... so he's getting slightly less than 5 years ago, 13 year contract, Keith money.

Good for Leddy. Always liked him.

Will be interesting to see if he improves his play in the postseason this year for NYI. Had a rough one in 2014 for the Hawks and I think that's why he ended up getting traded.

I don't think his performance had anything to do with his trade. They would have kept him if they could but it was all business. They knew as well as anyone that this contract was coming a he had the highest return value. If they had waited and decided to keep him instead of someone else, the return for whoever they shipped off probably would have been less.

I liked Leddy, probably the best skater on the team, just unfortunate that it was a numbers game and he wasn't going to get that type of contract here. I think the Hawks got good return on their investment.

I don't think Leddy's trade was entirely based on contract situations. While certainly part of it, I also think he was just bad enough in the last postseason to give the Hawks some doubts about his future.

If you take Leddy's current 2.7 million cap hit and add in Oduya's number of 3.375 (who is, basically, the player the Hawks kept in favor of Oduya), that adds up to a sligthly higher annual cap hit than what Leddy will get starting next year. Now, that likely means two big contracts are gone this summer. Would you have shipped off Bickell and Sharp to keep Leddy? While this is all with the benefit of hindsight I'd say yes. You could have your entire top four D-men locked down for the next 3-4 years at under $20 million. That's pretty damn good.

There was a series of bad decisions with other players and their contracts that resulted in Leddy being the odd man out. Great deal for the Isles though, he's played a huge part of what they've done so far and shown what he could do when given more responsibility, he's got the third highest CF % in the league. Only 23 years old. Totally mishandled here.

Never had any hope he'd be back here. Why would he come back?

The line about Leddy coming back was more rhetorical than anything else, FWIW.
