Well, Kelly Scaletta of Bleacher Report, using both weighted metrics and review of game defensive film thinks so. Link

Using the same method, Scaletta has Hinrich as the #8 and Rose as the #3 defensive point guards. Butler is the #2 defensive shooting guard, Deng the 6th-best defensive small forward (Dunleavy #26) and Taj Gibson the #3 defensive power forward (Boozer #29). You can find the articles for these other positions in Scaletta's archive.

Folks have been trying to find the definitive defensive stat for decades and Scaletta's method won't stop this search. Still I admire his attempt. And while there are some real head-scratchers in his rankings (Lamar Odom #2 power forward?), I don't have a big problem with where he ranked Bulls players.

If that were true, how would anyone score against such a defensive powerhouse? I am so glad the Bulls have Derrick Rose and he's great but come on, #3 defensively at the point? The pool obviously includes bench players because it has Hinrich and Gibson so high, so they're claiming there are only 2 better the Derrick. The biggest homer wouldn't try to sell that. And how has anyone seen enough of Jimmy Buckets at the 2 to determine that he's number 2?

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  2. Golden State Warriors
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks

My guess is the work he's done on Lebron, Kobe, and Melo the past season was good enough to impress the author into believing that he's the 2nd best defender playing the SG position. Based on that last paragraph he wrote for Jimmy's page, that seems to be the case.

Honestly though, I don't know how you couldn't rank Jimmy up there with Tony Allen and Avery Bradley at the SG spot...it's been clear from that game during his rookie year when Thibs put him on Melo that he was a darn good defender.

This stat must be including team success, and unit success in addition to rebounds, blocks, and steals.

We have a top 3 unit collectively, so there you go. Gibson #3? Shouldn't you have to start to count?

We should trade Noah for Aldridge though (something that no GM would actually do)

Avery Bradley, Rajon Rondo, Jrue Holiday, Mike Conley, George Hill, Kirk Hinrich, and Chris Paul are all better than Rose defensively.
