Joakim Noah has taken major strides to improve his offensive repertoire since entering the NBA in 2007 and is set to receive tutoring from the league’s all-time leading scorer.

In an effort to improve on the offensive end of the court, Noah revealed on Wednesday during a visit to a Chicago north suburban high school that he plans to train with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar this summer.

Noah put up approximately seven points and seven rebounds per game through the first month of this season, but he went on a tear rest of the way and closed the campaign with averages of 10.2 points, 9.8 rebounds and a career-high 2.5 assists. He followed that up with a strong showing in the playoffs, averaging team-highs of 15 points and 9.3 rebounds in the Bulls’ first three games of the Eastern Conference quarterfinals. However, Noah suffered a gruesome left ankle sprain in Game 3, which caused him to miss the final three contests of the series.

Noah’s offensive production grew as the season wore on and reached its peak against the Milwaukee Bucks on Feb. 22 when he dropped the first triple-double of his career – with 13 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists in a do-it-all effort that featured everything from mid-range jumpers to sleek dishes.

Over the past few years, several NBA centers have sought advice from former star big men. Abdul-Jabbar most notably worked with Andrew Bynum while serving as a special assistant coach for the Lakers. In March, Abdul-Jabbar attended a Bulls game and then spoke to the team and took pictures with players, including Noah, in the locker room.

For Noah, workout sessions with Abdul-Jabbar will add to his busier-than-usual offseason regimen. The 27-year-old is currently nursing the ankle injury and has made it clear that he will play for the French national team in this summer’s Olympics.

With Derrick Rose (torn ACL) and possibly Luol Deng (wrist) scheduled to miss an early portion of next season, Noah knows he must improve on both ends of the floor.

Jabbar said of Noah’s offensive game last June to Waddle & Silvy: ”I would have to have a chance to work with him and see what he is willing to do”. He additionally praised Noah’s game saying:

“If he had an offensive game he would be a monster. He is a very good player. He is so selfless and would do anything for his team and will do anything for his team. I really admire his character and well, the whole Chicago team. If Joakim Noah can get some offense going it will make for some balance. If they have an inside threat, they can’t just focus on stopping Derrick.”

Joakim Noah averaged 10.2 PPG and 9.8 RPG this season, and stepped up his game in the playoffs averaging 15 PPG, 9.3 RPG and 3 APG in the 3 games before his ankle sprain. With Derrick Rose and Luol Deng on track to miss various amounts of time next season, Noah will look to turn up his game.

While this is a good thing, why does he find it necessary to go play for the one country in Europe everyone else hates?.

And wasn't it France that fucked us on the Olympic voting?.

That's good to see he will diff need to pick up the offense next season with no Drose.

Definitely won't hurt. He has a semi decent left hook shot. Maybe Kareem can at least make that virtually automatic.

Nice to see that Noah is willing to take a leadership role in Rose's abscence. His offense did improve last year in some regards. Hopefully this can give him a bit more finess around the basket.

Kareem can do nothing. All he can do is to show him some moves he can work on. It's all about Noah and about how much he is willing to sacrifice to become better. Hopefully Noah is a work ethic and not a lazy ass like Howard. If he practices his hook shot like he did with his FTs he can produce some more points next season. But there is no way he can become a beast.

Pretty sure Noah has a pretty good work ethic once he gets into it. He's not perfect by any means, but his shot is an example of him putting work into something and getting decent results. Hopefully that's what will happen with his post game.

Who cares if Noah becomes a Kareem apprentice.
Noah won't be here next season anyway.
But Howard will.
My telescope into the future tells me so.
Noah will be part of a blockbuster trade before the season starts.
We may need to hold on to Asik because Howard might still have recovery time before he plays next season.

Didn't Noah work with Hakeem too? That didn't really do anything. I don't see how Kareem would make a big impact.

Hopefully it does... but I doubt it.
