Some drivers in North Fort Worth on Friday were stopped at a police roadblock and directed into a parking lot where they were asked by federal contractors for samples of their breath, saliva and even blood. The request was part of a government research study aimed at determining the number of drunken or drug-impaired drivers.

Local new stories are saying they were coerced by local PD. Never told it was optional/voluntary to participate.

"I am not resisting Officer, but I do not consent to your searches."

"Am I being detained or am I free to go?"

"I choose to remain silent and request an attorney."

Repeat the above sentences over and over and over to practice.

Then repeat the above sentences over and over and over when stopped.

Completely voluntary... but if they didn't follow protocol and were intimidating then there is a problem.

Cops will ALWAYS be intimidating. Cops are allowed to lie, cheat, deceive, and trick you.

1.) It wasn't being run by police or even the government. It was a survey being run by government contractors with specific protocols in place (many details here) that they must follow in order to obtain untainted results. I read that the cops were off-duty, so there is that, and sure their is always going to be the intimidation factor, but there is no real reason to do it because you don't want to because forcing response rates fucks with the data. There were giant signs there that said it was voluntary. Now, I agree with you in that if there was intimidation and such, which I may have missed in the article because I didn't fully read it, then this is really bad. This should be nothing more than road block setup. Cars that want in come in, cars that don't drive past. If there are problems here it should be on the government contractor 100% not the police.

Hmm... well that right there is a problem if it was done purposefully for deception.
