It's all about reliability. Mainly objective reliability seen in median ownership numbers. Not someone saying, 'my optima has treated me well for 8 years'.

I still see 90s kia sportages on the road as daily drivers(IIRC, used a good mazda engine). But big reliability holes outside of a few years of the Hyundai beta/theta platforms(which still can be goofy to maintain, but reliable if you did it right).

I have no reason to hate on KIA, but I don't see some special model pop-up and consider that a purpose to praise. Hyundai(which is KIA) has not been all that reliable for their touring car attempts, and yes fairly comparing tourer to tourer, not econobox to sportcar.

For the Record, I hate Kia. And it's 100% biased.

They call us up, order $400 worth of food for which they get 50% off.
They ask us to deliver the food 10 miles to their place, bring it in, set it up in their conference room, and then refuse to tip.

That's Kia in Joliet.

Thanks, I feel better.

kind of like your fake hips... but unlike u, this car can move.. resale value? i guess it depends on when u resell it ..

a bmw 530i that cost nearly 120k in aus in 2006 is 10-15k now.. most everyday cars lose value.. duh

low end value in aus is like 4k for most used shit.. much like 2k seemed to be the number in murica for shitty used.. that 50k kia will be 4k in 20 years.. and 2-4k in 30..

You know nothing about resale value of luxury cars. The resale value of a luxury KIA will dive the moment you drive it off the lot. Much more than a BMW. Learn more about the car market

yeah cause imma buy a car to sell it the minute i drive it off the lot... guud logic there.. you da man with da job... why u worried about resale value anyway?.. especially the minute you drive it of the lot? makes no sense..

so that 2006 bmw lost nearly 100k aud in value.. so ud rather lose 100 k in value plus service costs with the bmw ova 12 years or at worsetest 46k wif a kia...neither makes sense...but u a smart businessman.. i take it when u say u work fer da at&t or whomever. you was in da outbound call center..

yeah... cars lose value.. thanks.. groundbreaking stuff

German cars are a bad example right now(and have been for about 11 years), because if they do hold resale in a very short term, they still have the most expensive replacement parts and complex maintenance in the industry. So a one time $90,000 car drops to $10,000 in 5 years may seem like a bargain, but you're going to roll the dice on a lot of maintenance parts(that also can't be ignored, otherwise you fail emissions testing, regardless of actual smog output).

So in all fairness, you can buy the $50k KIA and give it away in 6 years and still do better than buying a Merc for $70 and selling it for $10.

Only an idiot would buy something that holds little value moments after you get it home. Makes no difference if you are going to sell it, the value is greatly diminished. Even Aussies know better than to do that

I's pretty irrelevant as cars are a depreciating asset anyway and don't really add to your wealth. Buying a car in general is pretty stupid outside of the fact that they are necessary in modern day life. The only way to get any value out of a car itself is to buy one slightly used and run it into the ground over a prolonged period of time.

Nonsense. Value of an item is relevant as that's what it's worth. Buy assets that retain as much value as possible.

I'm still bumping along in an 11 year old Pontiac. My wife hates it, but I consider it a classic because they don't make them anymore. Just shy of 110k miles, I'd say it's got another 50k miles on it.

You can consider a vehicle an asset, but it's a depreciating asset. It sure as shit isn't going to appreciate. I shake my head at people who buy brand new cars. It's like a dick measuring contest to see who can have the highest installment debt.
