Had one for the first and I hope the last time yesterday. Couldn't see anything but a blinking light out of my left eye for 10 min. Scared the **** out of me. Thought I was having a stroke. My eye Doc said not to worry. Anybody else ever have one of these?

I get migraines maybe twice a year on average but they come in groups. Mine start with a blurred spot in my vision and then I see a triangulated ribbon of transluscent colors. That's when I know oone is starting. Once that goes away after about an hour, there is a 80% chance of a migraine headache starting. Sorry to hear that you are starting to get them (hopefully just a one-off). They are terrible.

That's a good thing. Hopefully they won't continue for you. Even if I don't get the headache, I still feel groggy and kind of confused for the rest of the day. So that sounds normal (as far as normalcy of migraines go). I'm not a doctor, but I did stay at a best western last night, so take it FWIW.

Blinking light? out of the corner of your eye?

Tell me- do you have any floaters in your vision as well?

How old are you?

The reason I ask is that my lady had a floater in her vision, then had a headache, went to the doc, they saw a hemmorage behind the eye, and said don't worry, make an appointment with the specialist, and call us if you see blinking lights.

the blinking started that night, and she went to the specialist.
Turns out, the blood was from a slight tear in the eye.
the floater and the flashing was an interesting thing.... when you get in the 40ish range... younger for my lady because she has thin retinas and other eye grief... the eyes change from a gelatinous filling to a liquid filling.... all in the mater of a couple months.

The floater was a portion of inner eye goo that had not liquified swimming in already liquified goo. the flashing was a result of the gelatinous mass moving as she moved her head, and it was attached to the retina, causing the flashes.

And here i was thinking I was making her see fireworks.

Floaters sometimes in the other eye. Well hell! I'm going to drink some beers, get high and hope I don't go blind. Talk to you boys tomorrow if I can still see what I'm doing.

I had ocular migraines frequently a few years ago. Went to a neurologist and got worked up for MS, which was scary. He concluded they were in fact ocular migraines and said I could take either antihypertensives, antidepressants, or antisiezure meds and I (politely) said **** all of that. Eventually they stopped though sometimes I feel the prodrome coming on and will take sumatriptan just in case. I sometimes now get severe headaches which may be migraines or tension headaches - not exactly sure. All I can say is for the six moths or so I was able to stay off caffeine I was fine. If I could figure out how to give up coffee permanently I think I would be ok. I just need a job that let's me roll in at about 10 am.:)

Never had an ocular migraine but I've had a migraine. I hate when people say, "I have a migraine" but they are walking around like it is nothing. There is a difference between a HEADACHE and a MIGRAINE. The one I got scared the piss out of me. I had to turn out all the lights and the slightest movement hurt like I can not explain. I didn't know how I was going to make it home. I really though about having my girl at the time come get me. I could not move at all without feeling the pain in my head. I could not open my eyes. I layed my head down with all the lights off and just didn't move until the pain I guess went away. IIRC, I was laughing hard at the time and then I just felt an intense pain on one side and it almost instantly spread.

Ouch, you have my sympathies.

I never felt so helpless as when my son used to get migraines back when he was in his teens. He had the same routine, cold rag on the forehead, laying down in a dark room, no noise, no light, and hope it doesn't last too long.

Fortunately for us, my son eventually out grew them. He hasn't had one in years. Now were just hoping the grandson doesn't get them.
