How would you guys feel about signing Alex Gordon, from KC? With Fowler unlikely to return, we'll need a lead off hitter. Yes, Gordon is 31, but look what Granderson is doing at 34. Defensively he's about as good as you'll get in LF.

I believe he has a PO for $13M or so that he'll probably decline. He'll want huge money -- maybe $20M/per? How would you guys feel about Gordon on a 5-year/$100M deal?

The guy's on base machine, steady hand defensively, and has WS pedigree (on verge of his second straight WS appearance).

The idea is we move Schwarber to RF and trade Soler in a package to SD to acquire Tyson Ross. We could then sign Zimmerman to a $100M deal. If we're going to spend $200M, I'd rather have Zimmerman and Gordon than David Price.

At this point, we'll have to trade Jason Hammell and eat maybe $4M on his salary. Fine. Maybe we'll get a mid-level prospect out of it.

I would consider moving the lanky Kris Bryant to CF to replace Fowler and having Russell, Baez, and Castro man the 2B/SS/3B positions. Other than bullpen help, I think we'd have a ready-made team to compete for another pennant.

SP1 Arrieta
SP2 Lester
SP3 Zimmerman
SP4 Ross
SP5 Hendricks

LF Gordon
RF Schwarber
CF Bryant
1B Rizzo
2B Castro
SS Russell
3B Baez
C Montero

Thoughts?

Schwarber does not have the arm to be an every day MLB RF. Soler is a RF.

No his arm is pretty good. It is his range that is limited.

I'm ok with Ross but I see him as a 4. I would rather let Soler build up trade value then sell at a higher value. He needs to refine his game more.

This "Let's trade Soler" stuff makes absolutely no sense to me.

1. He's on a 5/22 deal
2. He's the same age as Bryant/Baez
3. He's raked at every stage of the minors and when he did, he didn't have SO problems.

Here are what his numbers were since he came back from injury

14-42
6 HR
10 RBI
9 BB

I just don't see any reason to move Soler. He finally looks like he's finally hitting instead of just relying on natural swinging ability and it's "let's trade him". I don't think I'm certain about a lot of things but I'm certain that next year, Soler will be a guy people will say "thank god we didn't trade him even for a Tyson Ross".

Thoughts on Alex Gordon?

Think he's a good LF but I don't love the idea of him leading off or paying him 20 million a year. Also, do love the idea of getting a high cost LF in FA since so many potential Cubs might have to end up there.

Schwarber has average MLB arm strength. That isn't what belongs in RF on a daily basis.

His arm isn't that great (it's actually not bad for a C) but it's not a quick release and a lefty in RF needs a quick release.

20 mil per year for 5 years for a 31 year old declining Gordon who bats 8th in the royals lineup?

You clearly dont pay attention to what epstein and hoyer are doing....

Pass

While I think we are too right handed heavy, have too many swimg and miss players and below avg defenders....id be inclined to trade maybe castro or baez and just use MONEY to get what we need (which is tor pitching, lh reliever, cf)

Grienke or zimmerman (maybe price but dont like his late season/playoff track record )

Maybe upgrade at the 4th or 5th spot with a lower tiered starter and make a minor deal to trade hammel to get a lh rel or utility player)

Id like to get heyward for cf (then rf defense late in games with javkson kept as cf vs lhp and defense late in games) but dont think this fo will go after him
