I think he may be done as a Card, but I don't think he's going to Miami or Chicago. The Angels are my darkhorse team to sign him. But who knows right now.

even with fielder the cubs are still very far away, a contract like that would be a killer. By the time they got their rebuilding done prince would be on the DL hanging out pre game at the mcdonalds on clark and addison trying to do the big mac challenge for man vs food.

With Fielder being all but gone, who does MIL have to fill 1B?

Do they extend Grienke/Marcum?

Not sure if this is right but didn't want to start a new thread on your guys' turf :D

Tigers Notes: Cabrera, Martinez, Verlander : MLB Rumors - MLBTradeRumors.com

Miguel Cabrera, Alex Avila and Victor Martinez collected MVP votes this year, but none topped the winner of the award, Tigers right-hander Justin Verlander. Here are some updates on the Tigers' top players...

Tigers GM Dave Dombrowski told Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports that the Tigers aren’t considering moving Cabrera to third base in 2012, though they may consider playing him at the hot corner during interleague play. Doing so would enable the Tigers to keep Martinez in the lineup without subjecting him to the grind of catching (he'd play first).

Morosi also credits Cabrera for putting together an MVP-caliber season after being arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated during Spring Training.

One veteran baseball executive told Danny Knobler of CBSSports.com that Verlander would be positioned for a deal worth at least $25MM per season if he were a free agent right now. Before the 2010 season, Verlander signed a five-year, $80MM extension that provided the Tigers with three additional years of team control. If he hadn’t signed the deal Verlander would be one of the offseason’s top free agents and might be positioned to eclipse C.C. Sabathia's record $161MM contract (no starting pitcher has obtained more guaranteed money).

The first item is sort of relevant to the discussion we were having about what to do with AL teams in the NL. It's somewhat creative for them to try that as Miguel Cabrera has played 3B before.

The second item is kind of dumb because Cabrera isn't a Red Sox and thus wouldn't drink while batting.

The third item is a pretty good point, and it will be interesting to see how Verlander does to finish out his contract and whether some team is willing to blow a shitload of money when he finally becomes a free agent into his 30s.

Sheehan makes a good point: how can the league approve a 100+ mil contract to a team being investigated by the SEC?
