A thread for getting shit done both personal and professional. Ask for advice, give advice, share productivity "lifehacks", systems / processes you use, anecdotes, experiences, efficiency, goal setting et al.

So how do you get shit done CCS (when you're not here wasting your time)?

It's scary to think how much more productive I could be. Luckily I am my own boss.

-Invest in yourself. If you are in business take a public speaking course or join Toastmasters. Get comfortable expressing ideas in front of group. Learn a new skill. Learn a new talent every year

-I sell shit and a lot of it. When asked by young people and college students I always tell them to sell the most complicated thing that they can understand. Anyone can sell candy bars but not everyone can sell rational databases. The more complex, the more good salespeople are in demand and the more they get paid. Having this talent leads to a great income but more importantly choice and options in your life.

I buy used underpants from goodwill, and sell them to omelet pre-soiled to save him time for a hefty profit.

Remove as much sugar from your diet as you are able.

Never, EVER turn down an invitation to a party, no matter how lame it sounds. If it sounds really lame, you might be the one thing standing in lame's way.

Scrub your feet with something abrasive at least twice a week.

Set goals for yourself weekly, monthly and far out. Work your way backwards from the far out goals and then execute forwards.

Don't be shy about passing gas in yoga class.

That's actually good advice for an old ass fart.

The key is...make yourself indispensable in your profession to the right people.

When I have a new employee screw up for the first time, sometimes I tell them "When you get here and clock in, brew a pot of coffee and have a cup. When you see me coming, drink another. If I'm wearing a tie, drink the entire pot."

Useful Items I wouldn't think of to bring to college? I'll be a freshman moving in soon, trying to think of things I may have my thought of

You get into Depaul buddy?

I kept my college things pretty simple...most of what you need you'll have. I guess if you have a lot of shoes, if you can get one of them door hanging shoe organizer things that helps keep your floor clearer. I'm sure other people have more creative ideas...

Mattress pad if you are gonna have a shitty dorm bed.

Noise cancelling headphones.... snoring roommate, drunk people at 2am, people talking where you are trying to work.... etc.

Some form of home cooked food... Grams used to make me stuff and send me off with it frozen.... you may be surprised how nice home cooked food is after living off dorm food, fast food, quick stuff like cereal and whatnot.... lol even when I moved in to an apartment and could cook it was still refreshing to eat something that was not made out of a box.

Non-school books..... at least in my experience I got schedules where I would have down time in between classes that was short enough it was not worth going far from where my next class was but long enough that I needed something to do. It can be nice to have something to read to chill out after lots of tedious lectures on school stuff.

And if you can afford to get one and have the space you may consider getting a portable heater/AC unit.... my freshman year in the dorm it was ok but after that living with 3 other people it can be hard to keep temps comfortable for everyone so I invested in my own heater/AC unit. This may be an item you consider if your dorm AC/Heating sucks ass or later on if you move in to an apartment but it was an investment I do not regret at all.

Flip flops for the showers is a must!

Advil...a big bottle for hangovers and don't forget protection brah. Have fun!

Ah that is one I forgot.... bring Advil or any other pain/headache relief but also bring other stuff like Pepto Bismol.... some foods in dorms might **** your stomach up and you wanna be ready... and Cold/Flu stuff cause you may get sick and nothing is worse than having to trudge out to the store when you feel like shit. So much of that stuff was just always in stock at home but I didn't think of any of it till I needed it....

Yes to cold medicine...always forgot to buy that and ended up being far more miserable than I could've been when I got sick.

This is good advice. A couple friends of mine have engineering degrees from a top California university. Now they're out selling shit in the engineering field that I can't even begin to describe and they're making mucho $$$.

All the above is fine, but if youre going to make something of yourself...

Bring plenty of study materials and an attitude to succeed. The marketplace is brutal for young college grads today. You need every advantage you can get

Thats the best advice this old geezer can give a young man today

Good Luck to you!..Never mind the parties and the broads, that will come. Keep your nose to the grindstone
