DeJaun Marrero

DeJaun Marrero
1130472.jpg
Hometown- Gary, IN
School- Bowman Academy
Position- Small Forward
Size- 6'6" 195 Pounds
Date Signed- August 30, 2011
AAU Team- Speice Indy Heat
Also Had Offers From- Cincinnati, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio State, Purdue
Rating- 3 Star Recruit, #48 Small Forward, #13 overall player in Indiana
Stats- (Senior Year) 17.4 Points Per Game
9.6 Rebounds Per Game

Scouting Report- Marrero is a high energy, above the rim type of player. He has a nose for the ball and goes to the floor without hesitation. Marrero is long, athletic, and very active on defense which should fit Purnell's style well. He gets on the glass regularly on both ends of the court and gets his fair share of cleanup buckets from offensive rebounds. He can finish inside with either hand, even when under heavy contact. Dajuan's weaknesses are shooting, ballhandling, decision making, and consistency. His shot could use a little more arc which can be fixed, and he just needs more practice with ball handling. Defending him will be a challenging task for anyone because of his work ethic and toughness. He will never give up or slack during the game. Overall, Marrero is a nice signing for DePaul and is sure to get solid minutes next year whille providing a nice spark off the bench.

Just found this article from when Marrero commited, obviously things have changed since then (like his loss of weight) but still a decent article DePaul Blue Demons add DeJuan Marrero to 2012 recruiting class - ESPN Chicago
Forward DeJuan Marrero, of Bowman Academy in Gary, Ind., committed to DePaul on Tuesday.

Marrero, a 6-foot-5, 215-pound forward, also considered Illinois, but he said the Illini had recently backed off him.

Marrero is ranked the No. 45 small forward in the country and the No. 40 overall player in the Midwest region in the Class of 2012 by ESPN Recruiting. He averaged 22.1 points and 15.3 rebounds last season at Bowman.

"First and foremost, I liked the education there," Marrero said. "Second was my mom. I like being close to home. Third, I feel like I can make a great impact at DePaul and with what coach (Oliver) Purnell can do. Fourth is the Big East. The best conference in the country is the Big East."

While some recruits have decided against DePaul because of its recent struggles, Marrero was attracted to the program for that same reason. He wants to be a part of the group that revitalizes the Blue Demons.

"People are trying to go wherever they're winning," Marrero said. "I'm trying to start something. With Bowman, we won a state championship in the second year. I'm all about turning things around, making myself better. It takes hard work. I wouldn't want to go somewhere it's handed to me. That's the type of person I am."

ESPN senior basketball recruiting analyst Dave Telep thought Marrero was a perfect addition to DePaul's style of play.

"The way Oliver Purnell likes to play with a lot of intensity defensively and to press, Marrero's a long guy with a nose for the ball," Telep said. "He works for what they're trying to do."

Telep also thought Marrero still had something to prove in college.

"I think Marrero was one of those guys who is exceptionally regarded early on, and now he has to fight and claw for everything," Telep said. "I think that's a good thing. I think he has a little chip on his shoulder. If I'm Oliver Purnell, that's how I get to him and ignite that fire in him."

DePaul assistant coach Billy Garrett was the lead recruiter on Marrero.

"He's been recruiting me since Day 1," Marrero said.

Marrero is DePaul's first Class of 2012 recruit.

Jodan Price

Jodan Price
951206.jpg
Hometown- Southfield, MI
School- Detroit Country Day School
Position- Small Forward
Size- 6'7" 170 Pounds
Date Signed- August 27, 2011
AAU Team- The Family Detroit
Also Had Offers From- Central Michigan, Minnesota, Northwestern, Saint Joseph's
Rating- 2 Star Recruit #59 Small Forward, #6 Overall in Michigan
Stats- (Senior Year) 12 Points Per Game
4.9 Rebunds Per Game

Scouting Report- Price is a lights out shooter. He can and will knock it down from anywhere at anytime. He is very skinny and it would do him good to bulk up with some muscle, but he has long arms and is tall for such a deadly shooter. Price's height advantage comnbined with his ball handling and shooting ability make him a nightmare matchup on the perimeter. Since he does not have the strength to play inside, he has developed into a great perimeter player. His style and shooting ability are similiar to that of Louisville Guard/Forward Kyle Kuric, except Price is longer and more athletic. The main concern with Price is his shot selection. Sometimes he tends to fall in love with the three ball and puts up to many contested shots. Price also doesn't like to attack the rim off the dribble, despite his ballhandling skill. He would rather take two dribbles and pull up for a shot. If he can become a driver and a shooter, he could become a deadly offensive threat. On the defensive end, Price will have an advantage while going against perimeter players because he is longer but has the same quickness. If he is stuck defending in the post, he might find himself getting banged around a lot which would be trouble for DePaul. Overall, Price is a decent signing for DePaul. His shooting ability will help spread the defense out while opening up the lane for Brandon Young and others. Hopefully, Price and Melvin will be able to develop an inside outside game that will cause major headaches for the opponent. Price should have a god future with DePaul and will hopefully become a key player down the road.

#3 overall prospect in Illinois Jerron Wilbut attended yesterday's game. Wilbut is a 6'3" Shooting Guard in the class of 2012 and he attends Downers Grove South High School. This is exciting, he would be a very good get :D

He would of rotted on the bench at IU Hollowell(beast mr b ball) and Panera and Devin Davis(went to my HS will probably not play much early) will get all the minutes behind Victor O and a select others. IU wasnt really want this guy Crean just damn near offers everyone and their mom a scholarship.

IU's class next year is sick most of whom I have followed for awhile. remember the name Yogi he will be the best pg in the big 10 maybe as soon as next year if Craft leaves.

:yep: hes still considering them :yeah:

I know, but he's not going to Depaul. That'd be awesome, but no way he passes up being able to play for Roy, Coach K, Izzo, Matta.

He'll probably end up at UNC, Duke, Michigan St or Ohio St. He's a 1 and done anyways.

Depaul is going to win the Big East next year. Too bad McDonald couldn't bring Shabazz along for the ride.
