CHICAGO -- The Chicago Bulls are re-signing guard John Lucas III, while talks on whether to bring back fellow guard Jannero Pargo are ongoing, according to sources with knowledge of the team's thinking.

More On The Bulls

Can't get enough NBA news and notes? ESPNChicago.com has all the latest on the Chicago Bulls. Blog

Lucas will be added for backcourt depth in time for Sunday's practice but is unlikely to see meaningful minutes after appearing in just two games in his first stint with the team this season, one source said.

The Chicago Tribune first reported Lucas' imminent signing Saturday.

The Bulls administered physicals this week to both Lucas and Pargo, who has been trying to come back from a knee injury that scuttled his attempt to play earlier this season with the New Orleans Hornets, sources said.

Lucas signed with the Bulls on Nov. 26 after being cut in training camp, then was waived Jan. 4 before his contract became guaranteed for the rest of the season.

Without addressing the Chicago-born Pargo specifically, one source close to the situation confirmed that the Bulls were likely to sign another player as injury insurance and for depth in practices.

Marc Stein is a senior NBA writer for ESPN.com.

well they're not going to see minutes, so it's not a big deal. After his last stint here, does anyone else think signing pargo is laughable?

I think signing either/both is laughable. As long as they don't play much, whatever I guess...
When Rose is sitting and we need offense, I wouldn't mind seeing either of them on the floor with Watson so he can play off the ball I guess.

It seems like the Bulls are starting to get concerned about getting Rose fresh for the playoffs.

these guys aren't going to play. it's not about rose being fresh, it's insurance in case rose/cj goes down. It's also because for practice depth.

And this just in, the Kings waive Luther Head. Um.... screw these guys... Head is PERFECT!!!

Someone should merge all of the Lucas III and Pargo threads.

Well that's great...but they won't play anyway. We'll have even more players to add to the blowout lineup. Pargo, JL3, Scal, Butler. Of course...if they're all active something's wrong.

if only we still had grey. We could play the all-non-nba line up. Pargo, jl3, scal, butler, grey.

It's one thing to call this the clown forum if Lucas III and Pargo would actually get meaningful minutes, but they won't, barring injury of course.

The Bulls aren't "sending in the clowns" with this move. They're adding depth, and, considering the Miami Heat will need another PG, the Bulls taking these two off the market helps them and hurts the Heat.

Pargo will not get minutes this year, and Lucas won't either, barring injury.

I'm not sure why people are so upset over this move. The Heat would have signed 1 or both of these guys, now that Chalmers is hurt. Good move by the Bulls to add depth.

Of course we can.

Pargo, JL3 all can't play in the playoffs, whats the difference if we sign them, or Head? At least Head could be trying out for next season, in addition to being a ready backup for this regular season if needed, and he's better than Pargo and JL3 combined.

These guys can't play in the post-season. It's past the March 1st deadline. They are practice team only players that could play in the regular season if the Bulls see an injury.

i don't think anyone is concerned, we just don't like these guys as players. It's like the bulls bringing back eddy curry. yeah we have increased depth, but man does curry suck.
