Just did a Ghost investigation at the Ohio State Reformatory from 6 pm Sunday night to 3 am Monday morning. I don’t believe in ghosts but went in with an open mind. Overall it was a great experience, did not see any “ghosts” but did hear some crazy shit and the hair on the back of my neck stood up more then I can remember. The next one is at an Insane Asylum in West Virginia. Has anybody else ever been involved in one of these?

Sounds interesting. I prob wouldn’t want to risk any evil spirits attaching to me like in the movies. I guess we will know in a few weeks if you start posting in tongues if one got you lol

I went in with an open mind. Still don’t believe in ghosts but I was generally intrigued. I probably should have seen Shawshank Redemption before I went. I think the haunted Asylum will be interesting.

I once knew a little kid named Cole. He would come to my office for therapy once a week. He would concoct these elaborate tales of seeing ghosts with unresolved issues. We met for several months. But it turns out I was actually dead and I was the new ghost he was seeing!

Wait. You've never seen Shawshank?

Lol. Nope. I haven’t seen many movies though to be honest. I kinda feel like I know something about the movie now though because on Monday the wife and I did the self guided tour through the admin building.

The only "ghost" tour i ever went on was absolutely fascinating.

It was a walking tour all over the French quarter.

The hook was this- it hit places where documented gruesome murders occurred. You get to the location, and he describes what happened- all verifiable, and all pretty fucked up.

He mentions people claim to see ghosts or whatnot at the places, but that isn't part of the tour for the most part.
He simply says " people claim the site of brutal deaths can be haunted, so we will be touring some of the most nightmarish slayings in New Orleans history."

Some were super fucked up, the Lalaurie mansion being the worst of them.

It was a company called "magic" tours in New Orleans.
The tour started at Lafitte blacksmith shop (now one of the oldest places in the French quarter) and ended at a bar the tour owner also owns, "the funky butt".

I've done one in New Orleans. It was a long time ago though, so I don't remember who the tour operator was. Had a good time though. Also did a history / ghost tour thing in a horse drawn carriage in Savannah. No ghosts, but going around Savannah at night like that was pretty cool.

that sounds very cool.
I have always wanted to visit some of the historic old south places.
The only places in the "southland" that I have ever been were super touristy places in tennessee- Memphis, Gatlinburg, Chattanooga, Pigeon Forge and the like.

There's definitely a touristy element to Savannah, especially on River St. The last time we went, we stayed right there in a hotel in the middle of all of that. It was pretty cool, but the next time we go we plan on getting an Airbnb or something more in the historic part and then taking an Uber over there to eat / drink / whatever. Charleston is another good one if you're looking for historic southern charm.

I went on a ghost tour one time in Galena, IL. It started at night, maybe 10PM? The wife and I (GF at the time) were pretty toasted by the time it started. I bust out laughing when the old guy started the tour by saying 'This is the perfect mix of history and mystery' and then we just walked around Galena at night lmao

Funny side note on that "magic" tour. I did it twice over the years. the minor places change, but the big ones are always the same.
Dude who gives the tour is very clear that he himself doesnt claim to have seen hauntings, that he focuses on history.
However, when he gets near the convent which is one of the big ones, he stops at a corner and points at a balcony.
He says "This is the part of the tour where I break from professionalism and tell you of a terrifying presence I myself have seen many times over the years. In fact, there have been times where the presence has yelled at our group, and from time to time will sneak up on our group and interact with people"
That, my friends, is the dwelling of Richard Simmons".

I never got to see him, but the tour guide says if Simmons realizes they are out there, he will frequently come out and ham it up.
Ocassionally if he sees them coming, Simmons will wander up behind the group and when the guide gets to the "sometimes interacts" part, Simmons will yell HI EVERYBODY!!!!!!!!"

Those are hit and miss.
I hated the ones that took you to "unknown witches" graves...usually they were bullshit made up ones.

Marie lavau (sp?) Is one of the "real" ones, where people who believe leave tokens of their wishes and draw "xxx" on the tomb in hopes to get something.
Some unscrupulous tour owners create their own "unknowns" and mark them up themselves.

I enjoyed seeing some of the cemetery sites though... the 2 hole tomb that has like 30 names on it dating back to the 1500s.

There is always at least one in a state of disrepair where you can see portions of skeletons.

Apparently since space is so limited, the cemetery will not care for the structures. It is up to living relatives.
Once it falls to a certain level of disrepair, they are removed and the plot is sold.

The wife had to go to Marie LaVeau’s and she left something as well! And it did end at a bar so that was a good thing
