Thoughts?

I remember when we drafted him in the 2nd round a lot of people thought he would just be traded off, but he wound up getting playing time.

How do you think he's been so far? Compared to your expectations.

compared to my personal expectations for him? I wanted nothing to do w/ him...thought he was a waste of a bench spot....so...quite well..ha

i think next year, he will start to become a bit of a force. He's pretty athletic for a big guy. He just needs to hit the weights HARDCORE for an entire off season. I guess Turkey doesn't believe in weight lifting.

If he can pack on some muscle and learn to keep the ball high and not bring it down to his chest/knees, I could see him being an average NBA starter someday.

For some reason, I think he will contribute down the stretch and in the playoffs. He is pretty smart and is picking up things quickly. Stacey King pointed out that he was going strong to the basket against Utah. I hope he continues his aggressiveness.

Asik is solid defensively though a bit of a foul machine which is typical for first year bigs. Offensively when he just dunks the ball without hesitating to think about it he's alright. Needs to learn to hit free throws though, because he'll get fouled a lot.

If he could add some sort of post move or mid range shot he'd be an awesome pickup and a guy who could easily be the third big in a rotation.

i thought he'd be complete and utter garbage. Watching him in the world champions really didn't help. He's certainty exceeded my expectations. I like him. ditto to what everyone else has already said.

For Basketball players? No, For a Sport that we can do at the Olympics? yes :shifty:.

Mainly in Turkey players work on shooting drills though i am unsure if Asik was there that day they did Free Throw lesson :shifty: and how to block the ball this is why when our National team plays against strong sides we struggle.

Omer has shown to be one of the most coachable 2nd round picks the Bulls have had in....
.......... in......... well, a really, really long time. He went from being a 30% FT shooter to hitting 70% in the last 20 games. That's one hell of a turnaround for a big-man. He went from piss poor footwork, running into the SF lanes and blocking the baseline to sneaking into the paint like a real pro. Adjustments like that don't happen with most big-men in this stretch of time, and I have to give him credit where credit is due.

Once the NBA slows down for him, and he can play with confidence every night, he's going to be a superb backup. I like Omer, and I'll admit that I didn't like the selection at first because of his injury history. Asik has been healthy so far, knock on wood.

He needs to improve his gravity on post defense. He also needs to protect the ball better when he's fed in the paint. That usually comes with time, but some players never master post-defense and that would become a big negative on many matchups. Hell, Carlos was JUST exploited for 3 games on his post defense. So hopefully a defensive-first center like Osik finds room to improve.

Let me start by saying I love Turkish people.

I think Asik has a bright future. I dont see him being a household name but i think he could play that good backup C role like Gortat did for Howard. Like Lefty said, he needs to hit the weights and hard. He's too soft going to the basket but so was Noah his first couple years.

I didnt expect a whole lot out of him to be honest. I just saw another soft oversees big that wouldnt be able to handle the toughness of NBA big men. I was so annoyed when people would constantly mention Asik in the off-season as our solution for a backup C despite seeing nothing from him on an NBA level. I loved how he came in last night and completely changed how we were(or werent) getting second chance opportunities. I think he was 4-6 from the line which is an improvement. Id like to think that Boozer can help him with some post moves and Noah can help him defensively, this kid will be well groomed off the bench w/ Taj.

he's been a nice surprise. He's a solid defender and takes the ball up strong.

Asik and Rose won us that Jazz game...Utah couldn't keep him off those boards.

I don't know 'bout this one...I always thought Courtney Lee was very underrated, and I think he could help us some...but you have to have a balance of big men too. I wouldn't mind either way.

I think he has been serviceable. He has been what I expected. A good moving Center, defensive minded. If only he could add some bulk and get stronger. Also, work on his free-throw shooting and post moves. He reminds me a little bit of Noah when he came in into the league. very raw, but potential to be a great defender.

Yea I agree but I just really really like Lee. I would try hard to get Lee with keeping Asik, but if we cant get a deal done and that's our last option I'd deal Asik.
