On the off chance Cutler does "OK"

What do you Cutler haters do if the new system has the team looking serviceable?
Could happen, Bears were pretty serviceable for a while with Ortman. If a team can go to the Super Bowl with those two bozos QB alone can't completely destroy a team's chances.

Do you save face and continue calling for ABC or do you calm it down and start looking for a future upgrade for when he retires?
Be skeptical? I'd completely understand that, the team looked like they may go somewhere Trestman's first year. I'd probably be skeptical.

I think I move on to being a fan of the NY Giants. They have an underperforming QB there who needs my brand of wit and sarcasm to help reach his potential.

I'd hope that he does "okay" enough for a trade

I think if he played above his contract he'd be worth keeping. I wouldn't hold your breath for that to happen.

I don't think the Bears want to meddle in mediocrity though. I wouldn't see the point in holding on to him past this year if he does "ok."

Because you don't have anyone better to replace him with? Sounds like you'll still be going with ABC even if it means taking a step down.

Why wait around to find someone better than him? There are a fair number of QBs that have come along since 2009 that are better, yet we've stuck with him way too long

A repeat of last year's performance would be "okay". 28 TD 18 INT

Yeah, it's not like were replacing P.Manning or Rodgers here, it's Jay "Fucking" Cutler for christs sake.

A QB in the top 10-ish. You don't replace that with McCown, and I know many of seriously made that suggestion. I can't think of any that were available to the Bears to replace him with, although I doubt they were trying.

Mentioning Rodgers brings up the point of how you should replace a QB.

Not sure if serious.

I hope Cutler does fantastic. In either case with his contract situation, age, and injury history the Bears need to be looking for his replacement regardless.

If Cutler does "ok" this year(ie a bit better than last year) it make his more palatable to stick around in 2016 but it also makes him more tradeable so you have to evaluate that.

Top 20ish...yes...top 10ish...LOL!

I'll give you that. I don't remember where I was reading them listing off a bunch of stuff he's in the 10. Definitely in the 20 of the FF I'm trying.

Be skeptical? I'd completely understand that, the team looked like they may go somewhere Trestman's first year. I'd probably be skeptical.

My opinion would remain the same- I am very pragmatic.
Every year there is a name that squeaks in to the upper level of players that is lucky to be there, and they usually drop right back down in short order. I would be happy as hell to see his trade value go up.

Even with a good season, Cutler is what he is, and I want to see an effort at improvement, even if that means tolerating a few poor years.
Back when the Bears drafted McNown, I was pretty pleased... When he failed I was pretty excited to see what Grossman could do. Then the bears were scared to keep trying, and that is what bothers me.

Letting him play till he retires is not on my list, and it is due to the situation the bears are in- We need a rebuild. all the quality guys (save long) are reaching the end of their good years.
small additions will get this team nowhere.
The 07-2012 bears were a few smart FA additions away from the superbowl, but there is no foundation left. Time to scorch the earth and build a foundation.

I am still absolutely stunned at the stupid, lazy, self defeating path Emery and Trestman took.
They had the perfect chance to gut the team and rebuild- which would have bought them at least a few years of tenure while they worked at it. Instead, they signed big ass free agent contracts and extensions, created a win now expectation, and lost their jobs as a result.

I don't want that again. I like that Fox is changing the d- rebuilding. Hopefully he will rebuild on O when Finances allow.
I don't want bits and pieces added for a slim chance at success the next 2 years and see the FO get fired as a result.
I want to see them plan long term, Deal with a couple poor seasons, and hope they are smart enough to build a decade long foundation like the 2000-2012 defense.

I am in for the long haul, and Nothing Cutler can accomplish fits him in to that picture.
